Today's Show

We start off today's show from the unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" (with "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration" intact), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a voice message. This voice message included, "Uncle Henry, please come back, Leeanna's taking control of your show, and she's running amuck". Regular audio clips such as the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" were played during the opening. "Thank you so much, it is a pleasure to be with you once again, listener", said the Uncle welcoming listeners back to Mobile's very own 710 frequency. Once again, according to the host, we made the right choice in radio programming, proving ourselves to be those with "intellectual curiosity" rather than being "lumps". Our host is aware that listeners want to hear numerous things out of him since Thursday's show. "Very disappointed in the people of this country right now", said the Uncle as July 4th, the anniversary of the USA declaring independence from Great Britain with the Declaration of Independence is closing in, yet the Supreme Court has just ruled on private property. "This is a big dag gone deal", said the Uncle, who was getting "hotter and hotter under the collar" as the days went by without any sort of protest against the court's decision. "It was a momentous occasion in the history of the world that the people governed themselves", said the Uncle reminding us about that historic day in 1776 before "fast forwarding" to today, including the Supreme Court's ruling on private property and people only caring otherwise. "If you're going to act like cattle, you're going [[to be treated]] like cattle", said the Uncle. Our first live caller Robert began with a "Roll Tide" shout before showing great agreement with the Uncle before reminding us why Amendment 5 was added to the United States' Constitution, "to protect ourselves from ourselves". "This is absolutely ludicrous", said our caller before getting to one case involving a certain Scrushy of HealthSouth. After the break, a voice message from one angry Tom "turning on the radio to hear you" the other day, yet it would result in a headache during the program's 3-person party atmosphere. "Let's talk to…the dial tone", said the Uncle before Steve welcomed our host "back from rehab", which was not the reason for our host's vacation. Yet another opinion on yesterday's program would come near the end of this half-hour, "the show yesterday was horrible, I don't know who those two guys were…". These two fellows hosting with Leeanna yesterday were John Bell and "Hound Dog". During the program's shortest segment, the Uncle responds to the tax-supported commercial promoting having one's "tubes tied" with, "I don't like that commercial, state of Alabama says children are a burden". Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.3/5!

Connie Bea Hope! Wow, that reference really sent me back to my childhood via the Way-Back machine! She was on every day, at noon I think, right? About all I seem to remember about the show is a nice African-American woman who assisted in the cooking segment and I couldn't figure out why she never got to say anything. - Richard Prolsdorfer

Time Off

Since the Uncle will be away from the microphone until next Wednesday, I may as well use these days without our mayoral candidate/host as vacation time. No offense to our temporary host and regular call screener Leeanna, but right now I feel that this is right time to conserve energy for the next few months or so. The Uncle and my show postings shall return!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to some Reagan audio, including the line "stick it in your pocket". Following this clip were regular ones such as "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", and the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry". Voice message of Tim ("so happy today that I don't know what to do") suggesting for the Bay Way that we " pave it all the way to Cuba" was played. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle greeting loyal listeners, including many others responsible for bestowing the title of "most popular radio talk show of its kind" upon this show. "You made your bed, now you sleep in it, if you know what I mean" was our host's metaphor for most listeners, including those in "correctional institutions". "Leeanna has actually lined up such a good show" was the Uncle's early preview for a program of great ambition set for tomorrow morning. Mobile County Commissioner and EADS expert Steve Nodine joins us via telephone without his theme music, the "NBC Olympics" theme. "They don't want us to call them EADS, do they?" the Uncle asked about the supposed acronym. "We've got EADS, so now what?" said the Uncle before Steve explains that over the next few months the City of Mobile will be recognized for its quality of life, workers, and the Causeway (added by the Uncle). "Your mind doesn't stop…" said Steve after our host's idea for using air pumps in Mobile Bay to protect the fish from future environmental hazards. After Steve left us, the Uncle acknowledged that over the last few weeks the former councilman-turned county commissioner has been a "well spoken politician". "The beloved Mr. C" joins us before complimenting our host on his voice "sounding good", but the main focus of his call was the almost unknown story of one well-known Washington named Denzel writing a check in donation for military based in Texas. After Mr. C, our mayoral candidate/host may know who Washington is, yet he would admit that, "I don't remember what (the movies) they are". Despite that, our host wished Washington the blessing of God if the story out of Texas is true. After the break, the Uncle reminds listeners of the Michael P. Sloan newsbreak coming up in about 10 minutes. "Your voice sounds familiar, Thomas" said the Uncle shortly after Thomas spoke his mind about Mobile being chosen by EADS, whose Belgium accent reminded our host of Milton Morrow. The daughter of caller Bubba joins us with different ideas for the proposed Causeway condominium that don't resemble something anything in Las Vegas. "Bubba's Daughter", would also congratulate the City of Mobile on becoming EADS' new focus. Coming up, "the best news anchor in town", as our host described Sloan during the show's shortest segment. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.9/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to not a voice message, but some classic show audio followed by the regular audio clips. "EADS plant is coming to Mobile and they're flying around", said Tim via voice message speaking about Mike Dow, along with Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean taking an airplane to Washington. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle greeting listeners on a beautiful Wednesday, while commending us for choosing a program of intellectual stimulation. Before getting to anything else, a programming note for 10:30 AM, as 710 AM will simulcast WPMI-TV's coverage of a Washington, D.C. press conference announcing the location of EADS' new aircraft facility, "within the body of the Uncle Henry Show". "It's about time, isn't it?" said our host at a time when everyone in the building is in a good mood. "Other topics to discuss", said the Uncle before explaining why the show should be 3-hours long to accommodate additional topics on days such as today. "Yet another condo for the Causeway", said the Uncle before suggesting that we may as well begin "taking dirt over there right now and fill in portions of the bay" to build more condominiums. "Lots of Eastern Shore, Baldwin County news", said the Uncle before explaining the Fairhope City Council's vote on work places being permanent smoke-free environments. "Hang out at your home" was the Uncle's suggestion for the young folks protesting ("jumping up and down", as our host put it) the closing of a Baldwin County club made especially for young people. "I didn't have a teen club when I was a teen", said the Uncle shortly after mentioning this news. First caller Norman joined us with interest in the meaning of the name "EADS", only to learn that they build defense devices. "I'm for industry, don't get me wrong", said Norman after comparing EADS to that of RSA. "Uncle Henry, you are exactly right, keep the engines churning", said Jim the Tax Man informing the Uncle about the FCC rule prohibiting public office candidates who host a TV or radio program regularly from working on either medium for 30 days before an election. "I want you to protect yourself", said Jim before suggesting for our mayoral candidate that he may still be able to host the show, only without speaking for himself. After the break the Uncle reminded listeners about 710 AM's coverage of EADS expressing "their love of Mobile" shortly after 10:30 AM before Steve joined us in agreement that Norman shouldn't be worried about the skills of future EADS employees. "I think it's going to be a good thing for Mobile, but we don't need a teen club", said Steve before mentioning the negatives of such places. "It's a bad scene", said Steve on the now closed club, which the Uncle now describes as a "bar on training wheels". After Steve, the Uncle mentions a Mobile Register article on some HIV testing this Friday night ("HIV Testing Day"), which he finds strange considering that happens to a night when most folks are "out on the town". "I think teen clubs are a very important part of [this] community", said Charles before saying that the young folks shouldn't be out protesting though. "Well intended, but off base", was how the Uncle described this call before the break leading up to the shortest segment of the show. "All right, more Uncle Henry Show next", said the Uncle before the end of the first half-hour. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.7/5!

Second half-hour begins with Tim's "own personal theory about the homeless people" before the Uncle thanked everyone for continuing to listen, even a half-hour before 710 AM broadcasts the live announcement on EADS' decision. "Let's talk to Mark, hello Mark," said the Uncle to Mark, who believes "we have a lot of good here", referring to residents with skills, along with pointing out the numerous colleges around here. Mark threw in Michael Bolton, Sr.'s name as a candidate for ambassador to the United Nations. "Just appoint him to the UN", said Mark before leaving us. After "the 85-year-old adviser" Mr. C mentioned his tax contributions to his country, he asked, "why is Mike Dow sucking up to a communist nation like Cuba?" Before Mr. C. left us, he hoped his call didn't bore our host, which never happened. Audio of Dow speaking about Cuba recently was played. After trying to get Allen on the air, turns it he left us, resulting in reactions such as "excellent job nurturing the calls, Leeanna". Tracy joins us with numerous ideas, but first he referenced to a metal structure being built that is visible from driving on the Causeway. "If people are making money working on it, then I'm all for it", said the Uncle on this particular structure. "Don't like Bob Riley, do you?" said the Uncle after hearing our next caller, who dubbed Gov. Riley as "Bob the Tax Riley" more than once. Before the break, show sponsors Hall's Meats of Chickasaw, Alabama and Woody's Barbecue of Daphne, Alabama were mentioned. "Both sponsors in the theme of [carnivores]", said the Uncle. After the break and the lost of caller Maria, "That's going to be your new theme, I'm changing it to this", said our host before the busy signal was heard again. Zach joins us in response to the very mention of residents not having the skills for EADS before learning that it was Norman who first brought this up. Tim joins us in embarrassment of the negativity on today's program. "Tim, this one of your best calls ever", said the Uncle in his regular tone of voice.

During the 10:30 AM half-half, the Uncle returned at about 10:56 AM in a mood of joy, despite what Leeanna may say after she is summoned. "You're going to have to plan this stuff out, Leeanna", said our host "trying to be nice" to our call screener after hearing her preview for Friday's show. A rather negative voice message from a fellow "sick of her" was played, including "I'll be on the opposite end of the spectrum, if you know what I mean", proving the Uncle's point of risking Leeanna as his substitute host. It's very likely that she will not take a vacation later this week, despite the negative criticism. Today's 10:00 AM half-hour, plus the minutes between 10:56 AM-11:00 AM get a 4.1/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" (with the Uncle singing along a few times), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to audio of "The Idea Guy". "Idea" predicted that part of our host's DNA, along with Ronald Reagan, G.W. Bush, and "other great people in the country" would be used to clone a mayor to serve all Mobilians. "It'll be 17 years from now when it happens", said "Idea" referring to the Uncle's possible reign as mayor, followed by the regular audio clips, including all-time caller Leroy's "Roll Tide Roll" and the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry". "Thank you so much…Uncle Henry Show on a beautiful, beautiful Tuesday morning", said the Uncle greeting one and all before admitting to thinking about us "while eating lunch". "We're going to talk about a lot of topics on today's program", said the Uncle before announcing Leeanna's return to call screening, which came a day after Nicole temporarily held the position. We'll probably never know who she was, according to our host, who in the future will get to know those in a temporary position better. "Page 5B of the Metro section" has a follow up to the issue of "chronic homelessness", which is the announcement of a long-term plan for ending such problems soon to be revealed at a public forum Friday morning at downtown Mobile's Government Plaza. "Got lots and lots of voicemail on the issue of homelessness", said the Uncle before playing Brent's message, which includes a song of "tender heart emotions" related to yesterday's discussion of "chronic homelessness". Our host's suggestion for all tenderhearted female drivers listening right now is to "pull over". Brent's song began with the lyrics, "I've been living under this bridge for ten years now, but I'm living the good life now". "We're living the American dream, we're living the American dream, we are chronically homeless", was how Brent ended the song. After telling female drivers that it's all right to listen again, the Uncle suggested to Brent to make the run to Nashville with that song. "Yeah, kind of" was first caller Norman's response to our host questioning whether the song made him want to cry. "Very sad song", said the Uncle before Norman brought up all those empty buildings located in downtown Mobile that can serve as homeless shelters. "The RSA Tower is going to be sucking a lot of tenants", said the Uncle before assuming there may be enough space left for homeless folks. Norman used the rest of his call to speak about one Bolton still unconfirmed for the position of ambassador to the United Nations and judicial nominee Bill Pryor finally being appointed. "We need to kick the United Nations out of this country", said the Uncle expressing such as "strong view" before bringing up the idea of Paris, France handling it. Before the break, the suggestion of G.W. Bush himself taking the position of UN ambassador came about. The Uncle apologized to those finding his view of the UN rather strong. Voice message from "Evil Irrational Man" was played seconds before the next segment of the show. "Once again, Leeanna not nurturing…", said the Uncle after hearing a busy signal, prompting him to tell listeners to remind our call screener to nurture the calls. Tom joins us in anger before sharing his large family's journey & struggle, including numerous let downs along the way while searching for a new home after losing the previous one. "If you are a husband and wife trying to keep your family together, there is no help in Mobile", said Tom. "We're now buying our house", said Tom after mentioning his family's luck of living in someone's home for a year before thanking God for finding a home of their very own. "So you're saying it's not true?" said the Uncle on there always being help for certain folks. "And you say churches turn their back on them?", the Uncle asked, with Tom responding with a "yes". "A family that wants to stay together, you can't get help in Alabama". "Lost of job", turns out to be the reason Tom's family, including 5 children ended up homeless. "I was traveling from Mobile to Mississippi", said Tom speaking about his old job in a casino. "Your story is out of the blue for all of us" was how the Uncle ended this half-hour. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

Second half-hour begins with the Uncle saying "all right" immediately after the introduction before allowing Steve on the air with his "Roll Tide". "Not too long" was the Uncle's response to Steve asking how long until the kickoff of the new Alabama Crimson Tide football season. "Good morning, mayor", said Brent before admitting that he "kinda want to apologize" for that tearful song. "I can't wait until you get into the mayor's office", said Brent before our mayoral candidate/host mentioned "less government" as one of his promises. "I don't know what to say, Uncle Henry", said Brent before our host told him not to get all choked up. "There's a number of stories I want you to be aware of", said the Uncle before mentioning the possibly of Rush Limbaugh speaking about this particular New York Times story with more depth later on. "Your political party is something influenced by your parents, your life experience…" said the Uncle reading this scientific research story on genetics being responsible for people either being "born conservative or you were born liberal". In other words, "the good Lord" placed political ideologies in us before birth. "His call not nurtured", said the Uncle on caller Philip, followed by another fellow gone, forcing today's summoning of Leeanna a day after tending to a sick child. "I have lost three due to your inattention", said the Uncle before asking our call screener for her Friday plans, including hosting duties. "I apologize for bringing her in here", said the Uncle before allowing Jay on the air to bring up Michael "Savage" Wiener's belief that "liberalism is a mental disorder" after hearing our host read the New York Times story. "He might be right after all", said Jay before leaving us. Speaking of "Savage", the Uncle believes the fellow's program has gotten better over the past few years. After reading a few more quotes from the genetics story, our host hopes "it is disproven" shortly before the break. After the break, a voice message from someone "fed up with these idiots" running the country after all the talk of releasing prisoners from the USA prison camp in Cuba. "Don't feel like you've got to apologize, you're already forgiven", said the Uncle after Bill joined us to apologize for his past behavior on the show. "Hey man", said Allen joining us with a "nurtured call by Leeanna" before asking if our host is still running for mayor, which remains true. His candidacy should be "in the hat" by July. "I hope this isn't scientifically true", said the Uncle on the genetics story, with Allen responding with "me too". After Allen, the Uncle reads more of the genetics story, including issues such as school prayer being "most influenced by your genetics", before mentioning views on modern art having nothing to do with genetics. Today's 10:00 AM half-hour gets a 4.9/5!

Third half-hour begins with a "warning about roofing contracts", including a reminder to call the Better Business Bureau to check the contractor's licenses and to take photos of the roof. "We have a lot of roofers", said the Uncle speaking for this area before mentioning those who take advantage of others during certain times (storms and such). "You'd bet, how are you doing", said Bart joining us on the genetics story before going back to his high school days, including a certain instructor speaking about ideologies. After losing Franklin, Steve joined us in agreement of the previous live caller. Before Steve left us, he asked "when you become mayor, is it all right that I call you Boss Henry?" since New York City had a "Boss Tweed" and Hazzard County on television had Boss Hogg, which the Uncle doesn't mind. "Good morning, mayor!" said Dan Daniels on the road ("be careful", said the Uncle) who would be in joy if our host wins the position of mayor of Mobile this August. During the break leading up to the final whirlwind segment, Woody's Barbecue in Daphne, Alabama was promoted by the Uncle, including tonight's "All You Can Eat Spare Ribs For $10.99" special. Final whirlwind segment begins with audio of Tim after "taking some" cold medicine. After that he began noticing "a picture of Nall" on a potato chip, followed by seeing the "Taj Ma Nall" in the clouds, which makes him want to quit taking this "cold medicine" after all these visions in relation to the artist of this condominium project proposed for the Causeway. Speaking of Tim, he happened to join us in response to caller Tom earlier. Tim also asked the Uncle if he's received the voice message on pigeons attacking at Government Plaza during a wedding reception, a voice message played recently. "I've got to do some more research on that", said Tim, who would wear a raincoat to protect himself from these pigeons. Our second Tom's call had to be cut short, but hopefully he shall finish his story on another day. As always, the Uncle reminds listeners to pray and to seek guidance in life by reading a Bible. Today's 10:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.4/5!

Today's show gets a 4.7/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to audio of one lady comparing the Uncle's hair to that of a friend, who also has Kenny Rogers hair. Regular audio clips from "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air" to the irregular "Roll Tide, this weekend" were played. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle greeting and thanking listeners for making "a wonderful choice in their selection…. with a tip of the hat". Show number (251) 479-2723 remains the best way to have a telephonic conversation with our host, even on days when Leeanna is not here to call screen. "Never before has this person screened calls", said our host on today's substitute call screener, who is "dressed far conservatively than Leeanna". Over the weekend the phrase "chronic homelessness" came to our host's mind through the Alabama Associated Press wire. "Birmingham is going to open new safe havens, whatever that means", quote the Uncle, along with "opportunity village" for the Mobile region. "They want to eliminate chronic homelessness", said our mayoral candidate/host, which he doesn't believe will happen in the future. "I'm not saying they like being hungry…they just won't go", said the Uncle on his belief that some homeless folks won't take up these apartments. "If it's just a free apartment", said the Uncle before saying he may have to be "chronically homeless" in order to have a free apartment. "Do you hear what I'm saying, I think you do?" was how the Uncle concluded much of his own discussion before reminding listeners how to call in. Our first caller, whose name was never mentioned joins us to congratulate the Uncle on his points, "more so than ever" in his opinion before giving out a "Roll Tide" shout. After the break a voice message asking, "what in the world is that man up to?", referring to Steve Nodine of the Mobile County Commission. "They don't want to be in the system", according to our next unnamed caller, who also agrees that "chronic homelessness" won't end by 2012 according to the government, followed by "I think a lot of these homeless people are going to refuse". After this fellow, the Uncle reveals the name of our temporary call screener, who is Nicole. "This is Kermit from Mobile", said our first named caller before weighing in on today's main discussion with "I don't think it's going to do any good". "I appreciate that", said the Uncle after Kermit left us. Steve's voice was recognized by our host before he was allowed to ask, "How do you get homeless in America?". "Are we going to have to round these people up and put them into an institution?", the Uncle asked before Steve responded with a form of "let the chips fall". "A real pie of the sky goal", is how the Uncle described this government effort against "chronic homelessness" before the last break of the 9:30 AM half-hour. Coming up, Michael P. Sloan reads the news from 710 AM's news center. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

Second half-hour begins with audio of Reagan's, "We don't celebrate dependence day on the Fourth of July, we celebrate Independence Day" before an audience of cheers and chants of "USA!". "Thank you so much!", said the Uncle greeting listeners on a "beautiful Monday" before informing folks just joining in about one issue that bothers him, now spreading in newspapers across the country. "You're going to be left with a choice", said the Uncle to the folks behind this statewide effort against "chronic homelessness". "The village might [help], I don't know what it is?" said our host before getting to Frank, who thanked our host for bringing this issue up. "Are they going to move on to a war on homelessness", said Frank on the federal government after its previous "war on poverty". "A bullet…I really believe that from long experience" was Frank's solution to the issue of "chronic homelessness". "Hello there", said the Uncle before our latest unnamed caller spoke, including some interest in caller Julius' opinions. Norman joins us answering the Uncle's questions about the temporary call screener, including if he ever spoke with Nicole. "Only for a little while", said Norman. "Richard of Theodore" joins us before asking how a "conservative talk person" like the Uncle could work with someone such as Leeanna shortly after remembering first seeing her at Francia's Formalwear. Like Norman, temporary call screener Nicole also treated Richard fine. Before the break, the Uncle asked himself about these homeless apartments with "how can they be scattered?". After the break, our next caller mentioned another location once bulldozed and raised for an apartment for the "chronically homeless", this being in Montana. "If you were to run for president of the world, I would vote for you", said this fellow before leaving us. "Hello there", said the Uncle before learning that our next two callers are gone, allowing all three lines to be filled again. After giving Nicole call screening temporarily a pass, our next live caller joins us with "the government does funny things". "They are not going to be associated with other people…they're just not going to do it", said this fellow on the "chronically homeless". "It's going to take more than money" according to this fellow on this group of homeless folks. "Maybe they should build the apartment under the bridge", suggested by the Uncle before ending this program segment with a promotion for show sponsor Hall's Meats. "Ask for it, it's spelled H-A-L-L, Hall's Meats", said the Uncle before the newsbreak. Today's 10:00 AM half-hour gets a 4.9/5!

Third half-hour begins with "all right, thank you so much" after another classic audio clip before our host greeted the next caller with "Jack, how are you doing?". "So you're saying it's just politics", the Uncle asked before Jack mentioned Atlanta's own effort at removing the homeless by use of police. "Lots of good truth from Jack", said the Uncle before reminding us about "someone in Washington" who wanted to end homeless, unfortunately leading up to an unwise use of money. "Except for the mercy of God, there be I", said our next caller before saying "we have done what we think was right", referring to the issue of "chronic homelessness". Despite the content of the call, the Uncle found the fellow's heart in the right place. "It's the people who don't want the help", said our host before saying, "the people who want help, it's there". After reminding listeners how to call in, our next caller reminds listeners how we treat folks such as the homeless, as the Bible states since the previous caller mentioned God. In other words, "we will always have them", according to this fellow. This same fellow mentioned a Reader's Digest article on a relatively unknown fellow who was behind most attacks aimed toward the USA since the 1980s. "Scary stuff", said our caller before leaving us on that article. "If anybody wants to work, they can work, there is a job", said our next caller. After this fellow, the Uncle reminds listeners that we'll be hearing more about "chronic homelessness" later this week since Mobile will have its own "opportunity village". During the break, Woody's Barbecue in Daphne, Alabama (near the Home Depot and Highway 90) and their "Sloppy Woody" special were promoted. The Uncle also mentioned the "many lucky fathers" who were treated at the restaurant yesterday, which was Father's Day. Final whirlwind segment begins with a couple or more reminders from the Uncle, including the voice message number (251) 706-BULL. "Hello there", said the Uncle before hearing one remind us that "two wrongs don't make a right" as weighed in Biblically speaking. Once again, the Uncle reminds us that people who want help can always find help. "I know time's running out", said this fellow before mentioning restaurants "eliminating the lunch menu" on days such as Mother's and Father's Day. "You have responsibilities, and a goal is something that can be attainable". "That's all I've got to say, Uncle Henry", said the fellow before leaving us, which has sparked something within the Uncle's mind. During the show's final minute, the Uncle mentions that he's never met today's temporary call screener, but if Nicole returns tomorrow morning we shall learn about herself and her philosophy. As always, the Uncle reminds us to pray. Today's 10:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a voice message. This fellow encouraged our host to visualize a bowl of fruit and some sweets on a table, which are metaphors for the show and other radio programs in that order. "That's how I view your show", said this fellow shortly before ending his message. Next voice message comes from "The Idea Guy" "making sure he was awake" while viewing the FOX News Channel reporting on the Jackson family's plans for a TV program of their own. "The umbrella should be the show", said "Idea" on what the first show should focus on. "Thank you so much, thank you listener", said the Uncle greeting one and all. Our host happened to be thinking about us during show preparation about 30 minutes ago. In a moment, our host will hear an "exciting story" involving Leeanna at the citizens police academy and a weapon besides pepper spray. "They allowed her to shoot a firearm", said the Uncle, who's mayoral campaign platform includes the support of females carrying firearms. Speaking of the mayoral campaign, "those people have to keep explaining what they think about things", said our own candidate speaking about his four opponents debating over issues such as West Mobile annexation at a local pub the other day. "They didn't move out there to be in Mobile", as the Uncle spoke on behalf of residents west of downtown Mobile before explaining the big difference between here and West Mobile. "You ought to vote for me, let's just be frank with each other", said the Uncle before reminding voters that any candidate using the issue of West Mobile annexation in his or her campaign would be wasting good money while in office. After reminding listeners to call in by dialing (251) 479-2723, the Uncle reminds listeners about Wednesday's discussion on "traffic calming devices", including one fellow's lawsuit on the lack of speed bumps in his area. This discussion has resulted in numerous voice messages, such as one from Ed including, "I think it's a conspiracy with the car and tire people". "Excellent, excellent points made", said the Uncle before playing a message from someone "in love with them", including the idea of only allowing drivers with "way higher qualifications" on the road. "The phone call hurts", said the Uncle before replaying this lady's message just to hear her belief about the elderly drivers. After the break, the Uncle has the answers for this lady supporting speed bumps. "I know you're calling as well", said the Uncle to every caller right now before dubbing the next segment "e-mail versus voice message". During the break, the Uncle promotes the "All You Can Eat Spareribs" at Woody's Barbecue in Daphne, Alabama as a specialty for anyone's pappy since Father's Day is closing in this weekend. After the break, the e-mail titled "Speed Humps" is read, including "Roll Tide Steven" asking for intelligent reasons for in the speed humps from listeners of the show. Steven's list of what speed humps cannot do include, "Speed humps don't enforce stop signs, police do", "speed humps don't stop drug deals", and "speed humps don't care about the people, police do". First caller Art believes the Uncle's voice is best suited for radio than in a political office. "We've got a terrible selection of candidates this year", said Art on the candidates he referred to by names such as "Fat Albert Jones", "Dinosaur Bedsole" and "Betty Boop Rich" (they are Sam Jones, Ann Bedsole, and Bess Rich). Art may "sit this out", this year's mayoral race for Mobile's highest office. After our first live call, the Uncle continued to assume that Art might be working for one of the candidates as someone trying to encourage our mayoral candidate to drop out. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

Second half-hour begins with a voice message from Tom sharing a red light tale involving him and a police officer close by, which gave Tom the idea of placing a speed bump there. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle after hearing "that man" (710 AM announcer) give out the telephone number for listeners during the show introduction. "Roll Tide", said John before our hosted responded with "Roll Tide to you too". "When are we going to get some Uncle Henry mugs?" said John after drinking coffee from a Scott O'Brien mug, whose name was never mentioned besides the insult. "You want speed bumps or you want police?" was John's question for people after hearing Steven's electronic mail message. Before updating listeners on "what Leeanna shot", the Uncle reminds us about the high temperatures the Mobile region experienced this week, but our host must show anger toward the "made up bunch of clap track" our local meteorologists have, the heat index. "These people have nothing to talk about", said the Uncle referring to days without a hurricane, including much of this week. "A map, an H, and an L" was everything the Uncle needed during a weather forecast long ago before he encouraged local weathermen to be public servants. As Leeanna's theme played before audio of "Evil Irrational Man" saying "Leeanna, oh dear Leeanna, dearest" can be heard, the Uncle continued to explain a outdoor temperature is exactly what it feels like. Yep, our call screener actually agreed with everything our host said. Before getting to the exciting firearm story, the Uncle and everyone else would learn about Leeanna and her fellow trainees at the citizens police academy viewing a "recruitment tool" unlike "Dragnet" or "Adam-12", but it was a movie proving that law enforcement is not all glamorous. After the break and Tim's voice message on a recent wedding reception at Government Plaza in downtown Mobile, Steve joins us to weigh in on the heat index. "100 degrees is 100 degrees", said Steve after using measurements in comparison to this heat index, which was previously enough for our host to say he's "got it". Steve also reminds us about how air conditioning and TV (he used the full name "television") has softened folks over the years. "They have to come up with stuff to talk about", said Steve speaking about The Weather Channel when there's not much to report about. "Steve got it about the heat index", said the Uncle before Leeanna shared her firearm story, including equipment such as ear muffs, goggles, and her shooting target, which was only a drawing rather than an actor. She successfully shot her assigned target more than once, which was the arm. She also mentioned a fellow trainee, a Marine who shot a drawing in the wrist. "You were curious about shooting someone there", the Uncle asked before Leeanna explained that it was only a picture. "I didn't know police use shot guns", said the Uncle after hearing about next week's exercise at the citizens police academy (one week before graduation), which will be a simulation of officers at work. Leeanna almost left out last night's tazing, resulting in "jumping up and yelling" among the folks volunteering themselves to be shocked. As Leeanna left the room to continue protecting her job, "that's a side of life that I do not walk on", said the Uncle before the break. Today's 10:00 AM half-hour gets a 4.7/5!

Third half-hour begins with "Uncle Henry, why does everyone in this town say Schillinger Road with an S?" via voice message. Our host reminds listeners to call in with the telephone number (251) 479-2723 before reminding folks to show appreciation for their alive and well pappy over the weekend. "Collect phone calls, well how about that", said the Uncle after reading an article on American Telephone & Telegraph reporting on Father's Day being the #1 day for collect calls. "I disagree on the heat index", said Mary, who was a resident of Texas. "Well then make up the comfort index instead of the heat index", said Mary after hearing the Uncle's suggestion for a "sweat index". After she left us, the Uncle "disagreed with you completely" and reminded listeners such as her that "92 is 92" and that 95 degrees does not feel like 105 as the heat index would say. Jim began his call expressing enjoyment for the show before explaining why the folks at the USA base in Cuba are not "prisoners of war", resulting in great disagreement by the Uncle. "You are going into ridiculous now", said Jim as the Uncle continued to mock his explanation and his view of war. As Jim left us, the Uncle responds with "you're as wrong as wrong can be, but thank you" in appreciation of such calls. Chuck joins us with "Uncle Henry, I think you're all screwed up on the declaration of war" before telling our host that there has been no declaration of war by the USA since the Second World War. According to Chuck now speaking about the heat index, "this declaration of Daylight Light Savings time" is where the heat index and chill factor stem from. After the break, "one more thing" from Tim showing disgust over drivers who do not simply enter a fast food restaurant on foot, but instead they back up the line leading up to the pick up window. Norman joins us in response to Jim explaining "declaration of war" and the USA base in Cuba, whom Norman believes is someone whose may never respond to an enemy unless something happens close to him. As the Uncle was trying to remind listeners how to call in, he realized that our time is almost up. During the show's final minute, the Uncle reminds listeners about the value of someone's pappy as his day of appreciation comes up. Our mayoral candidate/host reminds his listeners to pray as always. Today's 10:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to audio of "The Idea Guy" "applying the same principle" of King Solomon with Mobile's mayoral race. Regular audio clips from "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air" to the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" were played. Next voice message comes from a fellow who received an automatic telephone message asking for whom he would vote for in the mayoral election, yet he "couldn't vote for anyone because your name wasn't on there", referring to the Uncle. "Thank you so much, welcome to the Uncle Henry Show!" said the Uncle greeting and thanking listeners for showing everyone else that we are people of "intellectual curiosity". Before getting to anything else, frequent guest Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine joins us at the sounds of his theme music, the "NBC Olympics" theme and a couple of Mobile City Council audio clips related to him. "You focus consistently on negative things", said Steve before our host requested for "the Nodine we want", the "classic Nodine" known for saying "we should cut, we should shrink, I'll say until I'm dead" when he was he was councilman District 7 at the Mobile City Council. "Looks like it's me and Sam Jones in the lead, followed by the rest of the pack", said our mayoral candidate before hearing Steve say, "you don't stand a chance". "What in the world is happening in your district, District 7?" asked the Uncle before mentioning other candidates in this summer's elections, such as former WKRG-TV5 reporter Gina Gregory and radio personality Shane McBryde up for Nodine's former position. "I think it's important to have leadership in the city council", said Steve after hearing the Uncle speak about a supposed "sea of liberalism" making up the city council, excluding a couple of Nodine's former council people. "You're not traveling like all these other politicians", said the Uncle after finding out that Steve is not planning, nor has he made any trip to places such as Baltimore or Hawaii. Before the break, the Uncle described our frequent, yet controversial guest as "part old Nodine, part new Nodine". Campaign commercial for mayoral candidate Bess Rich ("Hi, this is Bess") aired during the break. After the break, a voice message suggesting that the Uncle "rethinks his position" on topics such as speed bumps. First caller John joins us jokingly "looking forward to the another property mandated tax" this year, but he mainly joined us to speak about the three-person county commission's limits when representing Mobile County. Charles' call turned out to be a song neither our host ("All right, I don't understand that") nor Steve could understand. During the half-hour's shortest segment, "ah, that's the Nodine we like", said the Uncle after playing "we should cut, we should shrink" again. Our hosted managed to convince Steve into saying it again, maybe even other quotes during today's program. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.5/5!

Second half-hour begins with a voice message from "Idea" (or "Idea Man" as Nodine calls him) reacting to councilman Fredrick Richardson realizing that "the majority rules" after hearing the audio clip yesterday, making "Idea" believe that Richardson is smarter than the entire Democratic Party. "Thank you for continuing to listen, very interesting show today", said the Uncle before mentioning his four opponents meeting at a local pub yesterday, including Sam Jones whom the Uncle agrees on one issue. Mike joins us greeting both the Uncle and Steve before showing appreciation for the latter fellow, especially for helping folks such as him "get paid for the GM&O". As a contractor, Mike mainly joined us for quite a while for answers on the high cost of construction material and fuel. Clay joined us to recommend that he be appointed the "official ambassador of Mobile", with "full powers" in this unpaid position. "You have to file $2000 and run for office", said Steve laughing before saying "there is no Travel-Gate" and explained that fellow commissioner Mike Dean was only is Paris to represent Mobile County. "It takes representation and that's what we are elected to do", said Steve before Liz joined us with interest the mayoral candidates' political party affiliations (though it doesn't apply this mayoral election), along with the two fellows in the studio today. Both Nodine and the Uncle are affiliated with the political party of Reagan, whom our host compares himself with. After the break, the Uncle reminds everyone that Commissioner Nodine is here before allowing Kevin on the air, asking for Steve's analysis on this summer's elections. "Whoever's going to be mayor is going to have a tough, tough job when it comes to finances", says Steve. "I'm partial to District 7", admits Steve while speaking about the infrastructure of District 7, including Langan (Municipal) Park. "So, the Central Park of Mobile?" said the Uncle after hearing Steve's comparison of the park's needs with that of downtown Mobile. "Well thank you, gentleman", said Kevin before leaving us, giving one particular time Tim to speak. "Steve Nodine, I originally tried to get rid of you", said the Uncle before asking that he stays for "one more segment". "For the public", said Steve before the Uncle repeated it. Today's 10:00 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

Before the third half-hour began, the Uncle reminds listeners about the restaurant Woody's Barbecue in Daphne, Alabama and their "unlimited amounts of food" for anybody's pappy since Father's Day is coming up. Third half-hour begins with a voice message from a well-known Tim via voice message weighing in on speeders, speed bumps, and "all the lane I can handle". "Final moment with Steve Nodine, the commissioner" said the Uncle before caller Chad showed support for Steve's stance on Langan Park, leading up to our commissioner mentioning his actual visit to New York City's Central Park since the Uncle mentioned it. "I've never run too, by the way", quoting our own mayoral candidate before Steve asked if this is the Uncle's first run for such a high position. "Who are you going to vote for in the election?" the Uncle asked after correcting "primary" with "election", only to get no response even close to the answer. "Remaining neutral right now until someone creates a pack for me", said Steve before explaining the county commission's master list of roads for one fellow. Before Steve's time was up in order to pick up his 9-year-old child, "I wish all the fathers out there a happy Father's Day", including all single mothers taking handling both roles and any pappy in the Service. Final whirlwind segment begins with "Idea" getting tired of hearing and reading about controversy over the prisoners being held at the USA military base in Cuba. "I think we need to enlarge it", said "Idea" before suggesting the idea of turning the entire state of California into a prison camp for residents such as Robert Redford, with barb wiring. "Oh goodness gracious", was Bubba's reaction to the Uncle at the beginning of the program before being thankful today's special guest wasn't a certain Julius Maurice. "Thank God it wasn't him", said Bubba before leaving us, giving James time to speak about traffic cones at the very last moment. After successfully "poking that old Nodine" out of Mobile County Commissioner Nodine, the Uncle reminds listeners as always to pray. Today's 10:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a clip of caller Tom, well known for his "Come to Mobile and Do Nothing" idea. This clip included his version of a song with the lyrics, "Mobile is the place to be, Mobile is the place for me". After the regular audio clips, "Thank you so much!" said a louder than usual Uncle greeting us, the "important people in my life", as our host put it. "Intellectual pioneer-ism" is how the Uncle describes the majority of listeners right now. Show number (251) 479-2723 remains the best way to call in, but before anybody can call "speed bumps in the news again", said the Uncle before reminding listeners about his campaign platform on these "traffic calming devices" in the street. "The sign of a successful street is that it is used", quote our mayoral candidate before getting to a Mobile Register article one fellow suing the City of Mobile over the speed bumps, which he wants. "I look forward it!" said the Uncle on the day he has the power to rid those speed bumps. "The old fashioned solution would be the have an officer ticket the speeders", said the Uncle before reminding listeners about the continuous "less enforcement of all laws". For example, those domestic disputes our call screener Leeanna witnessed while riding along with a police officer, since she's participating in the citizens police academy. "Apparently, Leeanna's not answering the calls as they come in", according to the Uncle after reminding listeners again how to call in. The Uncle concludes with "instead of beefing up your police department…" while reminding us about the 500 or so traffic "calming devices" placed in the Mobile region over the years. After the break, Mike Dow's "Look at that speed bump in front of Spot of Tea" clip was played. "They're so nice, people are suing to get some", said the Uncle before allowing our first caller "The Idea Guy" on the air. "Good morning, Uncle Henry", said Tim before suggesting that the old police cars should be left "in the middle of the road" in place of a speed bump, taking the roles of "dummies". "Gasp", said the Uncle as Tim apologized for always assuming that bicycles can be used on the sidewalk, until one Richard Allyn of WPMI-TV reported on a bicycle/automobile accident in Fairhope, Alabama the other day. "Why are you willing to ruin the streets of the City of Mobile?", asked the Uncle before allowing Mr. C to speak, who admits that our host may not want to hear his "garbage", as he described it before getting to the rest of his call, including a tale of one small dog who would eventually be put to death on account of injuries by a speeder. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.4/5!

"Remodeling has begun on a building which will house a studio and offices of a new television station at the northeast corner of Conception and St. Louis Streets. ... The studio will be used by WKRG-TV, Inc."

Notes of Interest:

During this evening's newscasts, the leading news story was the arrest of 51-suspected drug users & dealers in Bay Minette, Alabama as part of a yearlong investigation by local, state, and federal law enforcers. As the suspects were being taken into the Baldwin County Jail chained together, it appeared that one female suspect in a green shirt managed to kick the cameraman from WKRG-TV5 before saying a couple of profane words. To avoid unfair penalties from the Federal Communications Commission, TV5 censored this peak into reality by "bleeping" the female suspect's profanity. During the newscast's preview, a black spot was placed over her mouth. The same suspect spat at the cameraman from WALA Channel 10, a moment caught by a WPMI-TV cameraman. Speaking of Channel 15, Baldwin County reporter Leon Petite was nearly kicked by one of the suspects, who fortunately for Leon fell on his back and behaved in an amusing way that was worth every cameraman's time.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a voice message from a "Fred Hollywood Barkley" impersonator. "I told you I'm innocent just like Jackson", said the fake Barkley before leaving us with "God bless you, Uncle Henry". Regular audio clips such as "Cut your volume down" and the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" was played. "Thank you so much, welcome to the Uncle Henry Show here on NewsRadio 710 WPMI!" said the Uncle greeting us, the listeners he thought about during a certain televised verdict yesterday. "I enjoyed the media getting knocked down again", said our host speaking about every communications device reporting on the verdict reading, with the result of "everybody in the world captivated by the freakish story". Before this verdict was read live, the Uncle enjoyed numerous experts who based their opinions on "previous life experience". After viewing the jury's press conference, "they did not appear to be morons" said the Uncle on the folks who happen to be just "average citizens". "There's people out there everyday, outside", said the Uncle now weighing in on those folks outside that courthouse in Santa Monica, California, a throwback to the days of public hanging. If it were a relative of the Uncle on trial, "I wouldn't go wait outside of a courthouse for anything", said our mayoral candidate/host. Speaking of the people standing outside the courtside, the Uncle was flabbergasted at the fact that a non-resident of the USA, a "well-dressed" Iranian purchased doves before releasing one from the cage each time a "not guilty" verdict is heard over the audio feed. "Symbolize what?" said the Uncle. First caller Steve joins us "hanging in there" before mentioning his son, who would use a popgun to shoot each one of those doves after release. "The evil is put on a pedestal nowadays", said Steve before wondering if the jury had different races, there would have been a different outcome. After the break, a voice message from "Jim in Saraland" was played; reminding the Uncle that the jury's decision does not mean the defendant did nothing wrong. Despite yesterday's event, Mr. Cecil managed to wish everyone from the Uncle to West Asia a blessing before leaving us. After losing caller Ray, the Uncle mentioned the whereabouts of our call screener Leeanna, who is now "flapping her gums" with Mobile's only radio reporter Charlie Moss. Before the break, the Uncle mentioned the numerous "crime & punishment" stories occurring in the Mobile region, from David Thomas of the Mobile County School Board to the real Fred Barkley now out of jail again. All would be perfect for our version of Court TV, according to the Uncle. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 3.9/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a voice message from "Tom over here in Mississippi", as he puts it. Tom suggested to caller Tim to place some tape over the "weather things" (graphics) that the TV stations had during their "Arlene" coverage. Regular audio clips such as "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air" to the "street talk" aired. "Thank you so much!" said a louder than usual Uncle while greeting one & all before thanking listeners "as I always do" for continuing to listen before admitting that he wondered about our safety over the weekend since weather was the big concern. "You've made an excellent choice", said our host commending listeners on seeking a program worthy of "intellectual stimulation and mental growth". As the "almost savage" storm named "Arlene" approached the Gulf Coast, "people ran amuck" to the Florida and Alabama beaches. The Uncle gave a "special shout out" (before calling it a "thank you") to Scott O'Brien for reporting on the condition of the condo site, the Causeway. While the Mobile Register received numerous "Arlene" related comments via the "Sound Off" line, "I also got a few calls myself", said the Uncle on reaction to Saturday's storm, such as a voice message from "The Idea Guy" amazed by the meteorologists making "Arlene" seem much worst from reality. "Amen to Arlene", said "Idea" ending his voice message. "It's 11:30, Saturday", said the next fellow via voice message who noticed that not one reporter mentioned the extent of gale force winds. "Our people lost their expertise", said this fellow ending his voice message. After the break listeners are reminded to call in via (251) 479-2723 before first caller Ronnie joined us to speak about the "theatrics" of weather coverage, such as one reporter on The Weather Channel pretending that storm winds blew her down. "It didn't look exactly safe on that pier", said the Uncle after Ronnie mentioned the folks standing on the Pensacola Beach pier surrounded by crashing waves. When WALA Channel 10 meteorologist John Edd Thompson say there is a storm, Ronnie would believe it, but "I don't believe these yahoos from The Weather Channel anymore". According to the Uncle, Saturday's reaction to "Arlene" was "based on the previous experiences". Voice message number 706-BULL remains the number to dial anytime of day. John joins us to mention an insurance company advertised on 710 AM, yet "they still haven't settled with my mother" since September. "Watch out for these storms, cover yourself", said John referring to insurance before leaving us. Gary Redden joins us "with a couple of foods for thought", who finds it a good thing that "Arlene" coverage was over killed over the weekend. After Gary left us, the Uncle reminds listeners that the fellow is a "truck driver and ambient musician" before suggesting a new type "ambient music theme". After the break, a version of the "Bonanza" theme plays before Bob joined this short an quick segment of the half-hour with "Ah yes, Roll Tide Roll" before speaking about certain Yankee and "snow birds" whose visit to the Mobile region includes plenty of complaints. Before the break, Bob managed to suggest that these folks visit elsewhere. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

Notes of Interest:

Mayoral candidate Ann Bedsole's first campaign advertisement aired during WALA Channel 10's 9:00 PM newscast Sunday night.

During hours of "Arlene" news coverage, the doors of downtown Mobile's Bankhead Tunnel (originally opened in February 1941) became a topic of interest among native Mobilians on WKRG-TV5. Home viewers of WPMI-TV and TV5 witnessed folks actually standing on a beach pier as large waves surrounded them. Their cameras were credited for informing law officials about these folks at the Pensacola pier, who were eventually forced to leave. Before the pier was cleared of people, former TV5 reporter Darwin Singleton used the word "unintelligent", followed by "stupid" to describe the actions of those beach visitors. In Gulf Shores, one fellow lying on the beach appeared motionless for less than a minute in front of the TV5 camera before he finally moved. According to anchor Mel Showers, this fellow was worth arresting for such a scare. WALA Channel 10 broke into network programming (not NBC, but FOX) every once in a while with storm coverage. During network coverage of football and baseball, Channel 10 had a very large news ticker at the bottom of the screen, which scrolls unlike the tickers on TV5 and WPMI.

On Sunday morning, TV5 aired "Live Chopper 5" video of beaches after "Arlene", including Dauphin Island and Gulf Shores. Shortly after 9:00 AM, the station returned to CBS' "Sunday Morning" already in progress. Later that morning WPMI-TV aired pre-recorded Saturday programming, mainly to fulfill strict Federal Communication Commission guidelines that enforce the "cartoons are for kids" mindset and the belief that there isn't enough educational programming on broadcast television. The Public Broadcasting Service and the TV news services still exist of course.

Brian Wilson (Now at FOX News Channel)

In the western section of Texas, a young Odessa fellow named Brian who barely finished high school began his broadcast journey in the form of an AM radio disc jockey, part time of course. This repetitive position forced Wilson into aiming for the job of radio newsman at age 19. After that was a reality for a short period, the decision to make the run for TV news was on. Early in his TV years, Brian's reporting for TV5 needed some slight improvement, so fellow employee Bill Farris came to lend a hand. Such beginnings would lead to becoming well known across the nation, maybe even around the world as the face and personality of FOX News Channel's "Weekend Live" program.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to audio of Mike Dow last night. "And I feel like Huckleberry Finn at my own funeral", said the mayor during last night's appreciation event at the Mobile Convention Center, named for his predecessor Arthur Outlaw. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle greeting and congratulating listeners for choosing the AM side of the radio, proving once again that we are "intellectually curious". First, the "man of the Seventies, living in the 2000s", better known as Scott O'Brien joins us to discuss his attendance at the Dow appreciation event. Scott's theme song "Staying Alive" played in the background as he joined us. After Scott mentioned the Uncle's run for mayor to the man of the evening himself and encouraged him for support, "he had no response!" as our host would later put it. "You represented NewsRadio 710 WPMI without the coat and tie", said the Uncle after learning that Scott and an old high school friend of his were the only ones there dressing casually. "Bob Schultz and his band were there", said Scott before mentioning a slideshow of Dow's accomplishments as mayor of Mobile. Scott noticed that none of the local TV stations were covering the appreciation event, but was unable to recognize any writers for the Mobile Register. Before leaving us at the sounds of "The Bee Gees", Scott wished Dow the best in his new endeavors. "Pink golf shirt" was the Uncle's description of the clothing on Scott's back, which he finds "that striking" that it could be seen miles above Earth. Before Dow announced that he's not running for a fifth term, the Uncle figured there would be something bigger named in his honor. "I guess it was appropriate that they would name Mobile Landing after Mike Dow", said the Uncle before acknowledging that the naming of this landing near the Mobile Convention Center was rather prominent. According to our host, the first caller "fell to the floor" while attempting to speak with us, probably was effected by Scott joining the program. After the break, voice message from "The Idea Guy" with the suggesting of flashlight batteries to the Chicago Board of Trade was played, since most panicky folks would purchase them before a tropical storm's arrival. "Mike Sloan will have large amounts of information on the tropical storm Arlene", said the Uncle previewing the upcoming newsbreak airing in 10 minutes before allowing Mark on the air. "I think the design of the thing is not in esthetic with the Mobile-Tensaw Delta", said Mark speaking about the proposed Causeway condominium (proposed by lawyers, rendered by Nall), which the Uncle translated into saying that the project wouldn't fit. "I want to commend you on your vocabulary", quote the mayoral candidate as Mark left us. "Good morning, Uncle Henry", said Tim before suggesting for our host to get Scott O'Brien some ties, since according to him they can be rented. After reading today's Mobile Register, specifically the article on David Thomas of the Mobile County Public School System, Tim said, "it me get sick on the side of the road". "Think optimistically now…" said the Uncle after Tim left us on the wish of a good weekend. Al joined us with a "Roll Tide" before sharing his "secret work" over the past month, which involved keeping a log of his long commutes to Daphne in Baldwin County and back to his Mobile County home via the Bay Way. "Please report back", said the Uncle before suggesting that we also keep a traffic logbook. "Good morning", said Leeanna joining us at the sound of her theme music, but the Uncle must comment on her Zodiac medallion that he considers demonic. The Pisces medallion would remain the main focus of the Uncle's conversation with our call screener, even as music from a well known TV program based on "Pop Idol" played signaling the end of this half-hour. "What about your leg tattoo", were the Uncle's final words for this program segment. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to the regular audio clips. "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", a short version of the "Cut your volume down" clip (without "Cut your volume down"), the late caller Gracie's "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you", and the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry". First voice message comes from "The Idea Guy" suggests the revival of a long gone fishing rodeo for the Causeway opposite the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, since he's sure our host is "around my age" and would probably remember. "Thank you so much for listening!" said the Uncle looking forward to listener interaction before congratulating us for choosing the AM radio side, proving ourselves worthy of "intellectual curiosity". Before getting to anything else, program director Scott O'Brien joins as his theme "Staying Alive" played before mentioning his own conversation with the listeners on what they believe is the most "beautiful, impressive, attractive, whatever" building in downtown Mobile. "Nobody voted for the building that I voted for", said Scott referring to a smaller "glass box" aside from the RSA Tower under construction. As for the listeners of "Mobile's First News", it was the GMO Building that got the most votes for most beautiful, while Government Plaza received the most votes for ugliest building downtown. Before Scott left us, he mentions the flooding certain streets downtown experienced during hurricanes such as "Danny" and "Georges" (as the Uncle reminded him) since there happens to be a new storm below the Gulf of Mexico and a proposed Causeway condo was just revealed in the Sunday Mobile Register. Tonight's Mike Dow appreciation event at the Mobile Convention Center was mentioned, with tickets priced at about $25. The lost of our first caller forced an early summoning of Leeanna (with audio of weird caller "Evil Irrational Man" saying "Leeanna"), who was working late on WRKH-96.1 FM "The Rocket". "I think it takes away from your job here", said the Uncle before saying he would speak to Scott about this situation. According to our call screener, she believes the Uncle is implying that he wants someone else in her position, which he's not trying to force into reality. Later today Leeanna will be handling both the Mike Dow appreciation and the citizens police academy she has been attending for weeks. As Leeanna left to protect her job, "dressing casually for the workplace", said the Uncle on behalf of her clothing shortly before the break, which was signaled by both "The Bee Gees" and Leeanna's theme. After the break, Tim's voice message on our local weathermen predicting a certain storm's landfall for the Mobile region already was played. "Toll free number doesn't exist", said our mayoral candidate/host reminding out of town listeners to call in via (251) 479-2723. First caller Bill joined us with a "Roll Tide Roll" before casting "a negative light" on the fishing rodeo "Idea" mentioned in his voice message. Our second Bill joins us with mention of young skateboarders being responsible for ruining an old brewer center outside Mobile city limits. Later on Bill showed pride in the Uncle's run for Mobile's highest position, plus he's "tired of seeing empty suits ruining our business". Tim joins us to speak about "these weathermen gone talking about this thing", as in the first tropical storm for 2005 named "Arlene". "I'm going to get a haircut" is how Tim would prepare himself for this storm. Jim the Tax Man joins us after hearing the "cutest thing since slice bread", the nickname "Taj Ma Nall" for the proposed Causeway condominium, which was rendered by an artist named Nall. Norman joins us to speak about the "skateboarding kids" at the brewer center before getting to the supposed "overkill" of hurricane coverage by Mobile's news stations. "They can't tell me early enough", said Norman who very much appreciates the information their meteorologists are providing. Coming up, "Sloan, Mike" reads the news. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.6/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to the regular audio clips. Clips such as, "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", "Cut your volume down", the late caller Gracie's "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you", and the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you Uncle Henry". Voice message from Richard of Theodore, Alabama was played, including a suggestion of not building the Causeway condominium on land. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle finding it a pleasure to be with us, the listeners. "Thought about you while I was shaving", said the Uncle before thanking listeners yet again for choosing the AM side of the radio in the quest for intelligence, plus a "proper world view" as he put it. Telephone number (251) 479-2723 remains the best way of contacting the show, but first our host must "quote the lady correctly", referring to Mary Brabner of the Spanish Fort City Council saying that the Causeway condo may "destroy the (Mobile) Delta". "Causeway Condo" is the title of the first electronic message among many others on the same subject. "Why can't we let people appreciate this place for what it is?" was "Roll Tide Steven's" question on the lawyers/developers proposing something that would fit someplace else, such as Las Vegas. "I appreciate e-mail", said the Uncle after thanking Steve before "retrieving the second e-mail" from S.J. "Condo fever!" said our mayoral candidate/host after reading S.J.'s message. "Oh, it's me!" said our first live caller, whose named was never mentioned, joins us to say she was "a little insulted" by one caller accusing her of "tripping" (slang). Her response to how she would see the Causeway in the future was, "Exactly like it is", with a few restaurants close by. Not only has the Causeway inspired this lady's vision, it has also inspired one fellow to write a poem about the Causeway and read it via voice message. "Ha, this may be it!", said the Uncle searching for this poem recorded weeks ago. "Kind of deep" and "odd", were the among the Uncle's reactions to this piece of art in the form of an "alligator poem". Could possibly be from the artist known as Nall, the one responsible for the artwork of the possible Causeway condominium. During the break, our host promoted Hall's Meats. After the break, John joins us with a "good morning" and "Roll Tide Roll" before going under the impression that Nall did indeed write Causeway poem after allegedly hearing a speech of his weeks ago. After we lost Joe on account of Leeanna's intendance, James reminded the Uncle about the galleon "Nina" replica making its way into downtown Mobile last week. "Sir, I hope you're listening because you cut yourself off", said the Uncle after Arnold spoke about the Daphne beachfront. Shortly after Arnold left came "The Idea Guy" in agreement of the idea of turning Fort Conde in downtown Mobile into a condominium. Thomas joins us to speak about Mobile's settlers reaping this land, "pre-Causeway" of course. "What is this, the hang up segment?", said the Uncle after Thomas left us, but this incident never stopped our host from reminding folks such as Thomas what those settlers had to go through in order to achieve success in settlement. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.7/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a voice message from Steven asking our host to delay the show while he finds a new radio. Regular audio clips would play after this message, including "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", the Rebecca Wilson audio, the late listener Gracie's "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you", and the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry". Voice message from "The Idea Guy" on the "condominium craze" included suggestions to "these lawyers" who would want to develop something for the Causeway or Bay Way over Mobile Bay. "Thank you so much!" said a louder than usual Uncle before thanking listeners for making the choice of "caring about yourself" and staying along side folks who can "think right" on this side of the radio. "Lots of voice mail reaction to the condo proposal", including the artist "representing Alabama's soul" with his rendition of the proposed condominium on the front page of the Sunday Mobile Register. After yesterday's public meeting in Spanish Fort, Alabama on the 14 or so proposals to lessen traffic congestion in the Wallace Tunnel, the Uncle sees it as "very depressing" according to news reports. "I don't know what you're thinking", said the Uncle a second before saying he knows exactly what the historical preserve people really want, no new Interstate 10 route at all going through downtown Mobile. "I've got a question for you?", said first caller Paul, who doesn't believe that this Causeway condominium will ever exist. Our host reminds Paul that "some people are spending that amount money" on such as project, such as the folks on Baldwin County's beaches, not too far from the Causeway. "It's condo fever, it's near the water", said the Uncle as he attempts to get Paul to realize that fact. "They're just building them as fast as they can", said John on the beach condos before getting back to the issue of the Causeway and Bay Way, which he must face daily when traveling to Mobile and back to Foley, Alabama. Before the first commerical break, "John, I agree with every syllable", said the Uncle on a call worth a "blue ribbon" and a rating of 110%. After the commerical break, "another good idea about the condos" from "Idea" suggesting to the state to reconsider using money for their container project and use it for condominiums. Chuck joins us with a question about Josh Bernstein's whereabouts. He's probably working on his next investigation for WPMI-TV. Wilson joins us in response to a fellow named Julius during a recent 10:00 AM program segment. "Let's talk to David, hello David", said the Uncle after reminding Wilson about the other Julius-types out there. "Ecologically, it's not healthy at all", said David on the Causeway blocking the natural flow of water from the Mobile Delta, which is needed for creatures such as shrimp. Our host threw in the idea of dynamiting the entire Causeway before David suggested taking out at least part of it. David's other points would end shortly after music from a well-known TV program based on "Pop Idol" was heard in the background. Michael P. Sloan's newsbreak from 710 AM is followed by the show's 10:00 AM hour. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

"A Better Start..." - TV5 meteorologist John Nodar

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to "dire vision is two" among the Mobile City Council clips played in the opening. "Thank you so much, thank you for listening!" said the Uncle greeting us, who admits to missing listeners over the weekend, but there is the possibility of us "spending time" together over that length of time, which will be discussed later on in the show. "Lots to talk about on today's program", according to our host as "condo fever has spread rapidly" in the WKRG/Clear Channel of Mobile building, thanks to the "shocking story" ("not made up") of developers proposing a 26 story condominium for the Causeway crossing Mobile Bay. "It will blow Mobilians' minds", was how one of the lawyers proposing this project were quoted in the Sunday Mobile Register, which indeed blew our host's minds. "What do you think about this?" said the Uncle before reminding listeners to call in via (251) 479-2723, but first he must mention the artist of the concept drawing featured in the newspaper, which he calls "Gateway to America". "Is Mobile Bay suddenly become gateway to America", said the Uncle before suggesting a change in the condominium design from the current concept to a giant "A", a reference to the Alabama Crimson Tide. First reaction toward this article comes from "The Idea Guy", who suggested renovating the Mobile County Public School System's Barton Academy into a condo for the school board members. "There's amazing and funny articles over the weekend", said "Idea" before ending his voice message. After this call, the Uncle threw in numerous places to transform into condos, such as Fort Conde ("Ford Condo") and the Mobile Metro Jail in downtown Mobile. First live caller Shelby joined us with the idea to "put a see threw restaurant" in place of Barton Academy. During the break, the Uncle promoted show sponsor Hall's Meats with "Excellent, excellent, excellent meats" and one fellow's garlic bologna testimony via voice message. This particular Hall's Meats lover happened to be viewing "Petticoat Junction" around the time of his voice message. After the break, real estate broker Jim the Tax Man joins us with something he's never divulged. First, Jim must mention his visit to a recent rally with Judge Roy Moore speaking. "This guy is extremely intelligent", said Jim before getting to a "double standard going on" between Montgomery, Alabama and Washington, D.C. involving the Ten Commandments in the court. "I'll try to get my 369 out", said Mr. C during his lengthy call spanning Hall's Meats, homosexuality, and the proposed Causeway condo. Before ending his call, Mr. Cecil hoped his call didn't bore our host. Bill joins us to remind Mr. Cecil that progress cannot be stopped before suggesting that the entire City of Mobile gets bulldozed in order to put in more condominiums and a shuttle service runway. "There's nothing outlandish these days, is it", said the Uncle during Bill's call. Before the 10:00 AM hour of today's show and after this short segment consisting of music from the popular TV program based on "Pop Idol" in the United Kingdom, "the delightful" Mike Sloan will read the news from 710 AM's news center. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

"Summer Fare" - TV5 meteorologist John Nodar

Notes of Interest:

On WKRG-TV5 Sunday night, numerous errors occurred during, before, and after the station's 10:00 PM newscast. During the last hour of the 59th Annual Tony Awards on CBS, TV5's sound was muted and sometimes the picture would go dark. Things got worst during the 10:00 PM newscast, as muted sound and no picture forced a continuous loop of station promotions, ruining the entire newscast and its commercial breaks. Shortly after 10:35 PM, everything was back to normal, but the damage done to TV5's newscast could not be repaired.
