Today's Show

We start off today's show from the last few notes of "CBS Special Presentation 1973", the full "Listen!" audio clip with the late Lillian Jackson discussing "people out here aren't dumb", with out host responding with "they're not?". Following this clip was, "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", the Rebecca Wilson audio, and a couple of more regular audio clips. Show introduction remained intact, consisting of "NewsRadio 710 WPMI presents The Uncle Henry Show, studio lines are open now at 479-twenty-seven twenty-three or *710 for Cingular Wireless customers, so call Uncle Henry and be part of the program, life, politics, and love, on the local level, the national level, or on a global spiritual scale, it's your call and now here's Uncle Henry". After a few seconds of a taped greeting of the Uncle on a Wednesday show, our call screener Leeanna greets us all of a sudden, indicating that today's "Best of Uncle Henry" won't be a particular show (very first show for example), but a 1 ½ hour showcase of clips.

The Uncle shall return tomorrow!

WKRG-TV5 at 50 Project: Week 39

49 years and 267 days ago, TV5 went on the air!

Devon Walsh (Now at WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama)

It was at TV5 that Walsh got her start in broadcast news before moving on up to Birmingham, but first she had to reach her goal of even becoming a TV person by attending the University of Notre Dame. During her time at WKRG, she held positions such as assignment editor, reporter, and last but certainly not least in any way, news anchor. Devon also got to participate during TV5's coverage of Mardi Gras Day, also known as Fat Tuesday. Whenever she's not at her current workplace in Birmingham, expert Miss Walsh to be doing a hobby or two, including reading and piano playing. Lets not forget that she also helps out with local community groups. She resides in Birmingham with her partner for life.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to a voice message from Jimmy James. He explaining how he would replace the "Peanut Man" in reaction to the commotion over the peanut peddler's death. Audio clips such as, "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", the Rebecca Wilson clip, and the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" were played. "I'm going sniping" appears be the reason why "The Idea Guy" is taking himself out of the June 9th mayor's luncheon. "Thank you so much!" said our host followed by "Uncle Henry Show is beginning now". Once again, the Uncle repeats for listeners that if they know a "stupid person", introduce him or her to the radio band for the curious listener. During the 10:00 AM hour of the show, our host will be speaking with a longtime radio talk show caller, who happens to call in on talk programs on infrequent bases nowadays. Today, this fellow will "talk with you, the listener", among the treats set for us, including those with a view that may possibly differ. Shortly before the program, the Uncle already noticed something unusual today, as our call screener Leeanna actually slipped and fell outdoors while trying to speak with Scott O'Brien's "Ask The Expert" guest. Our mayoral candidate/host recommends discretion to prevent such an incident. After reminding listeners to call in via (251) 479-2723 now the only way of interacting with the show, the Uncle must bring to our attention the news story of "Doctors in Great Britain are calling for the ban on kitchen knives", specifically the long knives used in most stabbing deaths. "When is it going to end, I want to know?" quote the Uncle referring to these constant bans in Great Britain. Glenn, who's "doing well" joins us thanking the Uncle and Scott O'Brien for making news/talk radio the "arena" it continues to be today, but he mainly joined us to discuss a well known issue that has been "covered at length by Rush Limbaugh", as our host put it. "It's just more of the same", said Glenn before ending his call, giving the Uncle little time to speak his mind about the United Nations. "How much money do we put in that thing?" said the Uncle as he questions the USA's association with the UN, unless it's to move them out of New York City. After the break, a voice message from T.C. including, "If you know a veteran, have a kind word to say to him over the weekend" was played. K.P joins us, but first he must show some agreement with T.C., along with "blood was spilled so we can have our barbecue and trip". K.P. mainly joined us to bring up his generalizations of other people "based on geographic location" such as residents in Great Britain and Germany, but it was the latter generalizations that terminated this call. "You're wrong", was the most simple response K.P. got out of the Uncle. "At about 10:45", a guest from Roussos' Seafood Restaurant will join us to promote the local business for the Uncle's "Deal of the Week", an online deal that hasn't been done in a while. During the shortest segment of the 9:30 AM half-hour, "We'll go back in time, and yet move forward simultaneously with our talk guest", was the Uncle's preview as music from the USA version of a TV program based on the United Kingdom's "Pop Idol" was heard in the background. Coming up, Michael P. Sloan reads the news from the 710 AM news center. "Better than the average Sloan", said the Uncle a moment before the break. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 3.7/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from an edited version of the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" (including "Mobile's got the lovable Leeanna" replacing "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration, roll out Mardi Gras, Senior Bowl game), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to the regular audio clips. Audio clips such as, "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you", and the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" clip. "Thank you so much for listening!" said our host greeting and thanking listeners for keeping this "special relationship" he has with us strong. "Different preachers from various denominations, up and down the dial, including this show", was the Uncle's description of AM radio, the side for "the people that want to be smart", or simply those who are curious. "We want to bring more stupid people to the table", said the Uncle before using boats and rising waters as a metaphor for bringing in more listeners. "The correct decision by the American people", as the Uncle put it when mentioning that Alabama resident Bo Bice didn't earn a certain popular TV program's highest honor last night. "On that topic", said the Uncle before playing a voice message of one fellow "laughing his head off" at the other folks on the program (in the background) who believe they can sing. "You told us all that it would be Carrie (Underwood)", said this fellow before ending his voice message. "Could kill the goose that laid the golden egg", said our mayoral candidate/host while comparing the "professional singers" featured in last night's program to the amateurs before allowing our first caller on the air. Our first live caller happened to be a young girl accusing the Uncle of saying "a bad word" earlier, or "stupid" to be precise. After this conversation, the Uncle reminds newcomers to radio frequencies between 530-1700 kHz about the definition of "stupid" ("Slow to learn" and "dazed"), which was used in the dictionary sense. "So your characterization of me was incorrect", said the Uncle before allowing Allen on the air, who happened to differ from our host's comparison of amateurs and "professional singers" singing on this show. After the break, more topics of "great importance" will be discussed. After the break, voice message from Tim with the belief that if Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine is asked any questions, it would take "3 to 4 weeks", giving him time to take room in a hotel. "Amateur or professional?" was Gene's question for the Uncle on Bice as a singer, whom our host finds professional on stage. "Recording together you think?", said the Uncle after Gene mentioned that future Bice and Underwood duets could be in mind of the folks behind the program that made the two famous. "Get rid of the rock and roll aspect of his personality", was the Uncle's suggestion for Bice if a duet were to become a reality. As the Uncle was speaking with Gene, program director Scott O'Brien entered the room with written information on a Mike Dow appreciation event at the Mobile Convention Center, a place our host finds very appropriate when honoring the mayor as his reign comes to a close. "Good morning", said Norman before pointing out that the tickets to the Dow appreciation event would be a good prize giveaway for 710 AM, but he really joined us to say that one particular female singer on the program is better than both Bice and the "Idol" Underwood combined. Unfortunately, the Uncle has no opinion on this young lady, besides he's aware that residents in the USA have "rejected the hippie, they rejected Woodstock". During the short program segment, including the music from the program our host viewed last, he previewed the next hour with, "We have more issues to discussed, including taxes, Senator Shelby has a plan again". Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.4/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show with the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" (lyrics "that's my wonderful town" were sang along by the Uncle), followed by familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to the full "Listen!" clip with the late community activist Lillian Jackson. "Thank you so much…thank you for listening…welcome to the show!" said our host greeting us in seemly separate sentences before congratulating listeners on having the qualities of those interested in intellectual stimulation on radio's AM side. Today happens to be a big day for the Mobile region, as sight searchers from EADS North America are probably "motoring through the City of Mobile" in search of a location for the construction of an aircraft assembly plant that can have 1000+ employees. "We need this for the community", said the Uncle before reminding listeners to "be on their best behavior" if these sight searchers happen to be in town, plus drivers must not "drive like Mobilians". In case someone form EADS is listening, the Uncle brought up Mobile's numerous points of interests such as Fort Conde, "the battleship" USS Alabama, and "a wide range of pawn shops". "This is a wonderful place to locate your aircraft facility", said the Uncle before reminding the folks about how southern hospitality "reigns supreme". "We'd love to have you here", said our host before allowing our first caller on the air, who happens to have a wife who'd be interested in working for the aircraft building facility. Besides that, this fellow believes that there should be a Federal Communications Commission regulation on commercial decibels, since he currently turns down the volume during breaks for "The Beverly Hillbillies" before leaving the room, sometimes leaving him unaware of an important plot line. Freddie joins us to ask about our mayoral candidate's day of qualifying for the election, gaining a response of "I'm going to qualify on the very last day". Freddie also mentioned WKRG-TV5's "Listens Poll" of the Uncle's four opponents in the race for Mobile's highest position, which our host must see for himself at the station's website. Before ever seeing the poll results, the Uncle already believes the results are wrong. "It was very hot yesterday, wasn't' it", was our host's simple reaction to Freddie's experience in the 90-97 degree temperature the Mobile region endured Tuesday. After the break, audio from Mobile's tricentennial (300th year in existence) reminding our host and everyone else about those who walked this path was played, including Admiral Semmes and Magellan ("who stayed for a little while"). Daniel joins us with a "brilliant suggestion" for the program when it comes to the weekend and listeners such as him. Scott O'Brien's electronic message address was revealed over the air as for a way for listeners to support Daniel's suggestion. After the very short break was a very short segment featuring music from a well-known TV program known simply as "Idol". "They're at my finger tips" is the Uncle's description of the topics up for discussing during the 10:00 AM hour of programming. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.7/5!

Yesterday at the WALA Channel 10 studios outside their 49-year home on 210 Government Street, the 50-year career of employee Lee Robinson was celebrated. "Mr. Lee", as has fellow employees call him, happens to be someone evening newscast anchor Anissa Centers looks up to. It's hard to imagine Channel 10 between January 14th, 1953 (first air day) and May 24th, 1955 without "Mr. Lee" nowadays.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from "wonderful town, wonderful people, places to go, things to see, my love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "Beautiful homes, schools and churches, entertainment, places to shop, my heart's in Mobile, that's my wonderful town." "Mobile the center of transportation, business and industry set the face." "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration, roll out Mardi Gras, Senior Bowl game." "Mobile is great, living and working, the climate's ideal for progress you see." "My love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town!". "My Love is Mobile" is followed familiar notes of music ("CBS Special Presentation 1973") leading up to the late Lillian Jackson's "I have no problem with my radio" clip. Regular audio clips from "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air" to a couple of more Jackson clips were heard. "Thank you so much!" said our host greeting listeners and outsiders to "days like this, that are good", referring to the warm weather in the Mobile region. The Uncle also thanked us for choosing this particular band of the radio known as amplitude modulation. "There's lot of (intellectual) stimulation to be found on AM radio", said our host. He also previews this Friday's program featuring a longtime talk radio caller, along with the program airing on Memorial Day, which will be a "Best of Uncle Henry" show rather a chance for Leeanna to allegedly go after our host's position. After attempting to contact Alabama senators Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby after yesterday's "unneeded compromise" between the two political parties in the USA Senate, our host realized "I think their colleagues don't care what I think". "It will come back to haunt, it will come back to haunt", quote our mayoral candidate/host before playing listener T.C.'s voice message, since he's someone who happens to agree with our host. "There's nothing wrong with being nice", said T.C. before reminding the USA Senate that the job has to be done first. Plus, T.C. also referred to one McCain as neither member of the two major political parties. "Apparently that was for nothing", was among the Uncle's responses after hearing T.C. before getting to a more statewide issue. Gov. Bob Riley is actually declaring this day "Bo Bice Day" after the contestant on a well known TV program airing on many stations that call themselves "FOX (channel number)" rather than by the call letters. "Your job is to vote Bo Bice on the 800 number" is how the Uncle translated this news from the governor. Our first live caller joins with "Oh, the deal struck in the Senate", according to the Uncle. Listeners and the Uncle would learn that this fellow also sent an electronic message to our state's senators. "What is the point of voting at all, it's a waste of time" was included in our caller's message, but as for the Uncle he used the word "disgusting" quite a bit in his message. "If you have a majority, you better use it wisely" was our host's advice for Washington, D.C. during this conversation. Before a "brief hiatus" for commercials, the Uncle must promote the show's sponsor Woody's Barbecue in Daphne, Alabama. "It's a barbecue place near the Home Depot in Daphne" was the Uncle's description of the local business during the commercial break. After the break, our host reminds us about a "special treat" for the long time radio listener in the Mobile region this Friday. Coming up during the 10:00 AM hour, listener Brent's home made song in honor of the late "Peanut Man" will be heard. "Your timing is way off", said the Uncle after hearing Mark's "distasteful" call. "Local issue coming up", which is someone actually running against Thomas Sullivan of the Mobile City Council during this summer's election. This candidate for the council happens to be "standing in the way" of the construction of an Interstate bridge, or against it all together to be exact. "I'm going to work to get that bridge built" is the Uncle's mayoral promise if he earns the position of mayor of Mobile this August. During the half-hour's shortest segment, "More Uncle Henry Show after news" was the Uncle's reminder as the 10:00 AM hour of 710 AM programming is upon our ears. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.5/5!

Last night on the Mobile region's youngest station WBPG-TV Channel 55 , a "Stormtracker" bumper used as WALA Channel 10's half-hour station identification aired. It remains hard to believe that our former NBC affiliate would one day be in conjunction with an affiliate of the decade old Warner Brothers Network.

Before WKRG-TV5's 12:00 PM newscast began, viewers were given an unintentional peek of morning anchor Jennifer Abney studying the news. After this very brief peek came a second of blackout before the newscast began with John Nodar in the News Center 5 Weather Center.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from audio clips such as "ok here we go, hello you're on the air", "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you", "Hello…yeah…ok", the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" and "Uncle Henry…Uncle Henry". The "Red neck pre-verts" clip and a classic clip of caller "Bad Bill" accusing the Uncle of being a communist after hearing him say he doesn't like Mike Dow as a mayor. "No, it's not Uncle Henry this morning", said Leeanna greeting listeners as she substitutes for the Uncle this morning while interviewing Mobile Police Chief Sam Cochran, since she been participating in the citizens police academy over the past few weeks. "What was the inspiration for the academy?" was our call screener's first question for Cochran, who admits that the instructors have learned quite a lot from participants such as her. "We invite our critics…" said Sam. Turns out our regular host was "unaware" of Leeanna passing the background check before attending the citizens academy, something both her and the chief find amusing. Leeanna also mentioned her ride along last Friday in a patrol car, bearing witness to numerous domestic disputes. "A lot of it is just public service", as Sam reminded listeners about his department's service. "All right, is it me?" said our first unnamed caller who would very much want to speak to Sam Cochran about her area, especially off the air since she's disallowing herself from revealing the location. After the break, music from "Superman: The Movie" plays as Leeanna reminds us that "no, I'm not Uncle Henry", even though she welcomed us back to The Uncle Henry Show. John joins us after viewing one of the stations he called "opposing stations" report on Mobile's crime scene investigators being under funds, along with the police department itself. John used the term "opposing stations" since he's aware 710 AM is nowadays related to WPMI-TV when it comes to ownership and news. "We just need overall funding to hire more officers", was Cochran's most simple response within. After Leeanna realized that Robert is our next caller's proper name, he mentions the issue of speeding off during red traffic lights. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"), followed by familiar notes of music leading up to "that scares me, depresses me…". Other audio clips played were "ok here we go, hello you're on the air", the "Cut Your Volume Down" clip, "So I've come back to reality, I've come back you", and the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry". During the show introduction, one distinct sound was heard in the background before the Uncle spoke. "Thank you so much!" said our host "moving forward" with the program today before getting to some "shocking news" that shall be revealed during the next 90 minutes. "Congratulations to you for listening to AM radio", said the Uncle before reminding listeners about the supposed negatives of frequency modulation (FM) radio. "May I suggest AM radio for your lawn mowing", as the Uncle before speaking directory with a caller during the show's final minutes yesterday with real estate concerns on her mind. Since Leeanna was unable to hold her position today due to either a school function involving one of her children or by her own personal decision to view "Star Wars Episode III". "Yes, a new call screener, person, his name his Trey, he's male", was the Uncle's description of the 29-35-year-fellow currently call screening for the time being. On Saturday, the Uncle will be broadcasting live from another Saad's Health Care location during 710 AM's weekend program breaks during the late morning and early afternoon. Listener William was encouraged by our host to make his third appearance at a remote broadcast site. "Leeanna and Reggie Copeland, all at Saad's Health Care", said the Uncle before saying a special hello to listener Annie. First caller Gene joins us using the "Spaceballs" quote "Let the farce be with you" before asking how come people still want to see "Star Wars Episode III", yet folks like 710 AM newsreader Michael P. Sloan have revealed numerous portions of the plot already. "It's just a Western in space", said the Uncle before Gene left us, who has never seen the subsequent "Star Wars" pictures over the past few years. "The Star Wars is not going anywhere", said our host in anger before reminding employees today to "show up to work!" before ever attempting to call in sick. "It's offensive to me", said the Uncle before sharing with us the fact that he's seen "The Passion of the Christ" on his own personal time from work. After the break, our mayoral candidate/host reminds us that Mike Sloan will be reading the news in about 10 minutes. "Well, you're upsetting a lot of folks listening to the show", said John (twice, since the Uncle asked "what?") before reminding our host that employees "want to be entertained" too nowadays, as it's part of human nature. "They need to send you for some anger management, Uncle Henry", said John before asked if Vader can be compared to G.W. Bush or Clinton, since the Uncle brought up "political undertones" being part of the movie series. John also brought up a newspaper article on a female who actually cried during the entire first night showing of "Star Wars Episode III" because it was "the last one". This was something that the Uncle agreed upon as something sad. "What are we going to do, besides elect you mayor?" said John before the Uncle answered with "that's a start". After Joe's call focusing on the mayoral campaign, the Uncle showed appreciation for a local Kids Center putting up campaign signs close by, even though they may not do any good. Our 12-year-old listener Steven returns to ask if our host knows the current box office figure for the new "Star Wars", which is currently unknown. Steven also asked the Uncle about his current health, which is certainly better than it was early this week. During the very short segment featuring music from the popular TV program "American Idol", the Uncle admits to finding it very entertaining to see Alabama's very own contestant advance to possibly becoming this state's second winner. During the next hour of programming, the Uncle reveals the "shocking news" that possibly won't listeners much, but it does "shock me", as our host put it. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.0/5!

Notes of Interest:

The "shocking news" the Uncle revealed during the 10:00 AM hour is the possibility of oysters being added to the endangered species list by January 2006 through a federal proposal, making the Mobile region treat illegal to eat.

While the Uncle attends a grandchild's graduation tomorrow morning, Leeanna will have an on-air conversation with Mobile Police Chief Sam Cochran during the Friday edition of the show. Listeners will join in with their own questions for the chief.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's theme song "My Love is Mobile" (including lyrics such as "Senior Bowl game", one of the few lyrics our host sang along to), followed by familiar notes of music leading up to "The Idea Guy" via voice message. According to "Idea", Dan Rather is "going to help them (Newsweek) with their image", referring to the troubled newsmagazine. Audio clips spanning "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air" to the late community activist Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry" were heard today. Voice message from Tim down on his luck with a flat automobile tire in a district not considered "the big district" was played. "Thank you so much!" said the Uncle "slightly under the weather", but still enthusiastic to speak with us, the same listeners responsible for choosing the "venue for intellectual stimulation" known as AM radio. "Too risky, too unreliable" was the Uncle's description for the "computer medium" while mentioning his negatives of FM radio, including "horseplay" and "carrying on". The telephone number (251) 479-2723 is still the number for anybody to dial the show, including those listening to 710 AM's almost live Internet stream. "The blah blah blah of Leeanna" is how the Uncle described Monday's program, but was unable to describe Tuesday's show with Scott O'Brien hosting since he was not listening at the time. While at the doctor's office, the Uncle's magazine selections included a read on sharks. "Knowing that we're broke, they still won't pass a budget", said the Uncle as he weighs in on the fellows and ladies up in the Alabama Legislature in Montgomery. Switching from a statewide issue to the City of Mobile's District 7 race, our host mentions radio personality Shane McBryde and Mike Dow's spokeswoman & former WKRG-TV5 reporter Gina Gregory up for the position. "Well, he's still a disc jockey", said the Uncle on something that McBryde may have to explain during his campaign, including the playing of rap music. "No offence to them, but they are not assured of victory", said the Uncle on these two media personalities before mentioning those who are a "show in" for a position in the City of Mobile. "Everybody love John Edd Thompson", said the Uncle speaking about the 36 year veteran of meteorology on WALA Channel 10. "Disappointed" is the word our own mayoral candidate used to describe an event that occurred around 9:25 AM this morning involving our call screener. "Leeanna!" said a louder than usual Uncle summoning her for an explanation to "smoking like a freight train" with a 29-year-old person who encouraged her to come outside the WKRG/Clear Channel of Mobile building to smoke a cigarette. "A little reality for you", said our host after attempting to imitate some visitors to this show's remote broadcasts who say, "Leeanna is wonderful". After the break, Lawrence Welk music can be heard in the background as a voice message from "Idea" wishing "the Godfather of talk radio" good health after hearing his "under the weather" voice resembling that of Marlon Brando Monday morning. After "The Godfather" comparison, the Uncle asks us if we remember when the movie was actually shocking. Compared to today's broadcast television in primetime, the Uncle finds "The Godfather" very tame. Our first live caller brought up "The Grip Factor" in a city election, as in Bob Grip of WALA Channel 10, whom our host believes would be "more of a Fraiser Crane" candidate than WKRG-TV5's Mel Showers who's more like "a member of our family". John joins us after hearing about the personalities running for mayor before suggesting a write in vote, which is not allowed in Mobile municipalities. After hearing the commercial spot for the Lagniappe Mobile independent newspaper, John suggested that someone at the paper write an in-depth article on the Uncle's mayoral campaign. "Send in your money and we'll take care of you, from cradle to grave", quote John describing Alabama's taxation after hearing the most recent news from the state legislature. This type of article on the Uncle wouldn't be a first for him or Lagniappe, by the way. "I hope they take my request seriously", said John hoping someone from the Lagniappe is listening. "Are you really a 12-year-old person", said the Uncle as young caller Steven joined us, whose happens to be the son of a contractor working since a certain storm named "Ivan" moved across the Mobile region. "We missed you yesterday", said Steven before complimenting our host with great enthusiasm on having "the best call screener in town". After this nice compliment, the Uncle reminds Steven that he's 12-year of age, he's doesn't bare witness to anything happening off the air, and the fact that his brain (or "mind") has yet to be fully developed. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.7/5!

We start off today's show from less than a second of those familiar notes of music, followed by "ok here we go, hello you're on the air", the "Cut Your Volume Down" clip, the Rebecca Wilson audio, and "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you". Scott O'Brien happens to be substituting for the Uncle again, who's still "under the weather" after last weekend. Speaking of Scott, proprietor Scott Gonzales of the Three Georges store in downtown Mobile and the relatively new downtown redevelopment organization joins us today. "Three Georges is part of Mobile", said Gonzales who encourages anybody besides the "lunch crowd" workers who visit the shop to come downtown. "They're another property owner just like we are", said our guest Scott speaking about the City of Mobile. "All right, he us, just left us" said Scott reacting to the lost of one unknown caller before allowing first caller Paula on the air with his questions. Paula would find out from Gonzales that the group he's participating in is a "service organization" of property owners. "There's no place to park down there…. I'm down there every day", said Tim joining us to speak about downtown Mobile's lack of free parking spaces. "I think those police on bicycles are very effective", said Scott the host after asking Leeanna about her occasional visits to the downtown area, since her residence of Theodore, Alabama is relatively far south of Mobile. "This will be a fast break", said Scott before the first commerical break. "NBC Olympics" theme signals the return of the show after the break as Scott O'Brien reminds listeners just joining the program that this particular Scott in the studio is part of the planning commission for downtown redevelopment. "I never really have a bad time finding a place to park" said Chad before mentioning the need for more parking spaces in the future. "It's the business owners themselves doing it", said Chad speaking on behalf of those downtown. "I hope it's a big success and Mobile continues to grow", said Chad speaking about Gonzales' group before leaving us. "I love downtown Mobile", said Scott O'Brien before sharing his days of working at WKRG-TV5 and Radio (710 AM and 99.9 FM) when the stations were located in the building on St. Louis Street. Yep, back then downtown Mobile was a "ghost town" since there were next to zero restaurants down there. "Any place that needs a general store, it's downtown Mobile", quoting Scott. "The personality of Mobile is what your downtown is", said Gonzales. "Anybody that knows me and my desire, Mike Dow" was Scott Gonzales' response to Scott's question on what to do about the downtown parking meters. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from a slow version of the show's theme song, with lyrics such as "wonderful town, wonderful people, places to go, things to see, my love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "My Love is Mobile" is followed by familiar notes of music leading up to the clip of self-proclaimed "redneck" James Miller's "Uh, toothbrush holder?" from the popular TV program "Survivor", and the regular show audio clips. "Thank you so much, thank you so much for listening", said a low tone Uncle "expecting imminent healing" since he's currently "under the weather", preventing him from raising his voice toward Leeanna and allowing her to "do all the talking" for the day. After our call screener was summoned, our host mentioned listener William Masey visiting Saad's Health Care on Saturday, which was the location of the Uncle's afternoon broadcasts during regular weekend programming on 710 AM. Masey happens to be the one who listeners the show while in the shower, whom Scott O'Brien mentioned last week on his program "Ask the Expert". This fellow also believes Leeanna "is the show", something the Uncle disagrees with very much. "You road around with the police Friday night", said the Uncle asking about Leeanna's 10-hour drive Friday night in a Mobile Police Department patrol car as a member of the citizens police academy. "Lots of domestic violence, eh?" said the Uncle before throwing in the idea of charging these folks "a dollar amount" for complaining to police about domestic disputes, which Leeanna agrees with after witnessing her close officer answering such calls. Disputes such as one involving one fellow's own son throwing bricks at his home and a young courtship going down hill. "Are you standing outside with this?" asked the Uncle on the fellow throwing the bricks, which she did. After the Uncle asked if the Mobile Police Department received anything besides "another domestic violence", Leeanna managed to mention a report to police on a dead body, which was enough for our host to say "ooh" out of interest. Before the break, the Uncle previews Leeanna delving into "CSI territory" at the beginning of the next segment. After the first break, voices message from "The Idea Guy" sharing his Interstate story of a litterbug in plain view was played, yet police should be cracking down on these folks. "I guess it won't happen because it makes too much sense", said "Idea" before saying current mayor Mike Dow's "String of Pearls is broken". "You said you had a dead body in your drive-a-long", said the Uncle before Leeanna explained that it was 60-year-old without his tracheotomy. "They pulled the paper up…they seemed exited", said Leeanna describing the scene where she, along with police and fire fighters witnessed the body, which thankfully for her was not a gunshot scene. "Did they say this was an unusual amount?" said the Uncle questioning the number of domestic dispute calls before Leeanna answers with this being the norm. After encouraging listeners local and long-distance ("have to pay") listeners to call in via (251) 479-2723, our mayoral candidate/host reminds us that "This is a chance for the Leeanna lovers to talk with Leeanna". The final segment of this half-hour began with "I thought I had seen it all?" said Tim via voice message sharing his sighting of a female "jogging down the street" with a small child in a stroller. As music from the TV program "American Idol" played, our host asked Leeanna if she viewed last night's live edition of "Survivor", featuring the show's winner Tom Westman, even though she wanted Mobile resident and Tennessee native Miller to win. "He beat all those young people who looked like models", said the Uncle reflecting upon the show's latest winner, whom he believes is "too young" for this genre of television. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

The Uncle shall get well!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's theme song with the lyrics, "wonderful town, wonderful people, places to go, things to see, my love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "Beautiful homes, schools and churches, entertainment, places to shop, my heart's in Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "Mobile the center of transportation, business and industry set the face". "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration, roll out Mardi Gras, Senior Bowl game". "Mobile is great, to live and to work in, the climate's ideal for progress you see". "My love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "My Love is Mobile" is followed by familiar notes of music leading up to a clip of Fred Richardson's "Division is two, we can't have one" from the Mobile City Council. "Correction officers" and "deputies" are among the other shortages the City of Mobile has besides police, according to Al via voice message before suggesting a change in working hours. "So stop complaining all the time and work with what you've got", said Al before ending his voice message. "Thank you so much, welcome!" said a louder than usual Uncle on this Friday before thanking listeners for supporting him to become referred to as "the genre leader". "More intellectually stimulating than the printed newspaper", said the Uncle continuing his crusade for AM radio. Listeners are reminded that no private citizen can for close on the midtown Mobile property the show is broadcasting from, giving a reason for our host say, "thank the Lord". Leeanna is already summoned since "Mike Sloan has taken her from the Uncle Henry Show" to help cover an important news story on military base closing recommendations, yet she's unable to locate the two local reserve centers. "Somebody help her", said the Uncle before encouraging listeners ("the lines are already lighting up", quote the Uncle) to telephone our call screener with the location of these facilities. After Leeanna left us, the Uncle shares a real life story involving a grandchild of his and a "Spanish folder". "He's now just learned his ABCs", said the Uncle, along with the 5-year-old boy's reading and numbers, only barely. "They're just getting started and here comes the Spanish folder"; said the Uncle before reminding the folks in the Baldwin County School System that "there is a place for English". "I'm a drive through window person", said the Uncle sharing his experience with the "children through the drive through window" of restaurants who barely speak English. "No problem with Spanish", said the Uncle speaking directly with parents and educators. "I just had to get that off my chest", said the Uncle shortly after raising his voice before allowing first caller Steve on the air after viewing the news. "He kind of favors you a little"; said Steve speaking about one John Bolton up for the United Nations, who sort of resembles the Uncle too. After Steve left us, the Uncle's last remarks on the fellow's mention of Bolton, "The UN needs a vocal criticism, they need a spanking". After the very short commerical break, voice message from "Big Daddy on the Eastern Shore" plays, including the suggestion of Leeanna enhancing her call screening since she's in the citizens police academy, especially when someone like Norman calls in, whom "Big Daddy" accused of having a "sippy sippy" before calling. This Saturday, our mayoral candidate/host will be broadcasting live from the Saad's Health Care on downtown Mobile's Government Street during 710 AM's commercial breaks. John was "over simplifying" his point of teaching two languages using grocery shopping for example. "There is a possibility that you can be too negative", said Dale joining us in agreement of John. Besides the Spanish & English issue, Dale also questioned the Uncle's supposed negativity toward Auburn football fanatics who shout out "War Eagle". "The person may be more positive than you", said the Uncle after hearing Dale's lack of anything supporting his call. Tommy joins us with a "Roll Tide" with a "couple of real quick comments" on Dale accusing our host of being quite negatives at times. Both the Uncle and Tommy believe the emotion in these folks can be negative when "the truth hurts". Tommy also brought up some more improper use of the English language, including "you know what I mean" on an unnamed sports talk show (not Paul Finebaum's program). "Uncle Henry, don't worry about being too negative", said Mobile native Tommy, who now lives east of Mobile Bay's Western Shore. "I've been very positive", said our host during the half-hour's last seconds. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

"Partly Pleasant" - TV5 meteorologist John Nodar

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unedited theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"). This Mobile song is followed by familiar notes of music leading up to a voice message with "Uncle Henry, I'm really, really, tired of these interruptions of Rush Limbaugh", referring to the emergency alert tests during the program following the Uncle. After asking why not have these tests during the Finebaum or Scott O'Brien's two programs, listeners were able to hear the Uncle forward this message to Scott. Voice message from "The Idea Guy" after watching Mike Dow on WKRG-TV5 speaking about protection from fire was played, proving to "Idea" that the mayor is a "total idiot and baffoon". "In 2006, I'll be Dow-free forever", said "Idea" before ending his voice message. "Thank you so much, Uncle Henry Show in progress", said our host on this Thursday morning before thanking listeners for indicating their own intelligence of choosing amplitude modulation radio over frequency modulation's "wasteland". The Uncle thanked "Idea" for reporting on "WPMI's competition", since the Uncle deeply believes Channel 15 tops the entire competition because of investigator John Bernstein and "Hog Dog Rodeo" reports by Mike Rush. "It sounds, very, very disturbing" said the Uncle after reading WKRG-TV5's special report featuring Mobile Police Chief Sam Cochran speaking on behalf of a "hiring freeze" and that the department is "one hundred officers short", explaining the lengthy response time to emergencies. "Why are we left in this position?" asked the Uncle as Dow's reign comes to close before summoning (by use of the "Evil Irrational Man" audio) "police expert" and call screener Leeanna since she attends the citizens police academy weekly. "That is a lot, maybe I should join" said Leeanna after responding to the question of whether or not she's heard about this shortage in officers at the citizens academy, giving her the idea of possibly joining the department. Leeanna carrying a gun happens to place fear in the Uncle. Our host also heard about this earlier special report on TV5 on the fire department's response time. "So, all the problems would be solved with annexation?" said the Uncle before encouraging Leeanna to ask about all of this at the local academy tonight, with the "Charlie Moss Tape Recorder" close by. As she returned to call screening, the Uncle displayed confusion over the completion of Dow's self-titled "String of Pearls", yet the City of Mobile includes a police department stretched too thin. After the break, live callers will be heard. Voice message from "Idea" played, asking whether Saraland would create a tax package encouraging folks like him to stay. "I think they need to give citizens, like myself thinking about leaving [an option]]", said "Idea" ending his voice message. "We had Lucky there?" said our host before allowing John back on the air after speaking about the related topic of crime yesterday. "Compliments to TV5, very good piece", said John encouraged to speak freely about last night's report before saying it's all about the take-home cars in the police department rather than officers. Ed asked the Uncle about the possibility of Dow annexing Florida if he becomes governor of Alabama. After Ed left, our host explains how basic and "dag gum simple" it is to have a good number in the departments of police and fire. "I would want to run for the teacher's union," said the Uncle on how he would change the state of Alabama. "If you want change, then try helping me campaign for the AEA", said the Uncle before reminding listeners how to call in via (251) 479-2723 and voice message number ("if you're shy", said the Uncle) (251) 706-BULL. For reasons being kept locked up, the Uncle is disallowed from giving out the Cingular Wireless code again. The electronic message will be checked during the 10:00 AM hour of the program. Today's show gets a 4.9/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the show's unofficial theme song "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town"). This Mobile song is followed by familiar notes of music leading up to "Mayor Henry, this is Big Daddy on the Eastern Shore" claiming that "some guy", or Scott O'Brien was "hitting on" (some sort of slang) our call screener Leeanna yesterday. This forced "Big Daddy" to keep his radio off until today's program. "Thank you so much, it's a pleasure to be with you here in the radio", said a louder than usual Uncle before thanking listeners yet again for choosing AM radio as our "entertainment & informational source" over the FM side. "This is the good radio to listen to", said our host before showing worry, or "concern" as a better word about a "very serious matter" involving downtown Mobile that he's glad to be unassociated with. "They want to make it cleaner, they want to get additional security", said the Uncle on those implying that over the past 15 years nothing has been improved down there. "There's a lot of wonderful people involved in this", according to the Uncle on these property owners before getting to those who oppose "self imposed tax or fees". "It's being shoved down their throats", said the Uncle before telling us that this private non-profit corporation was set up to perform government duties. "This is very alarming", said the Uncle before reminding us that these "non-profit civilians" who would be collecting taxes from these downtown business owners. "Why not just try to provide more police…", said the Uncle throwing in the suggestion of bringing security to the entire city. "This is a new private bureaucracy that is being set up", said the Uncle before reminding listeners to call in at (251) 479-2734. After the first break, some audio from the Mobile City Council will be played. Lawrence Welk music can be heard as the Uncle says, "coming up, Connie Hudson audio tape, Fred Richardson audio tape" on what appears to be a "utopia" for downtown Mobile. First caller Roger joins us unclear, among many others about the budget for this improvement for downtown Mobile. "If you can't afford to pay the new fee, then you've got to leave", said the Uncle reminding Roger about this new downtown business development. "Connie Hudson 100% right from the Mobile City Council" was our host's lead-in to the audio clip. "Woah, did you hear that!" was the Uncle's final reaction to Connie Hudson speaking at the Mobile City Council. "The budget exists, but we don't want to show it to you", said our mayoral candidate/host making things clear. "Pay attention, West Mobile," said the Uncle on the land his four opponents in the mayor's race are focused on. "One neighborhood shouldn't have to create a private corporation to get the basics", said the Uncle before allowing Bill on the air, reminding us that things like budgets are usually kept behind "closed doors". "This is all about money", said Bill after hearing Hudson speak about the "heist on the Mobile citizen", leading up to $40,000 paychecks. "Taking a time out for news with Mike Sloan", followed by the 10:00 AM hour including some Fredrick Richardson audio. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.8/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from the full version of "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town") with the lyrics "Mobile's got the Junior Miss Celebration, roll out Mardi Gras, Senior Bowl game". Followed by familiar notes of music to an abundance of classic audio clips, such as "it's going to be a great day in the City of Mobile", "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", "Cut your volume down", and the Rebecca Wilson audio. After a second of silence, Scott O'Brien says, "Uncle Henry is in route to Daphne, Alabama", specifically Saad's Health Care (neighboring a Ruby Tuesday restaurant) where he'll be hosting a live remote broadcast shortly after 10:30 AM. "For the first time in 16 years, somebody other than Mike Dow will be elected" said Scott before reminding us about the Uncle's mayoral opponents speaking at last night's debate and forum. Scott also reminds us why Mike Dow has decided that "16 years is enough", for reasons such as family, "very long days", and "extensive meetings". Scott appreciates listener perspective of last night's mayoral debate, minus our most regular host. As Scott changes the subject from the mayoral election to the vote for legal purchases of liquor in Jackson, Alabama in Clark County, he admits, "I'm not much of a drinking man", but he does have an occasional beer. Scott would share a story of a movement of prohibition from his days living of living in Georgia. "Somebody's getting paid to look the other way", said Scott while explaining why it's the bootleggers who are support of allowing liquor sales in Alabama's "dry counties". Before the break, Scott compares the sale of chain food "readily available" to that of the purchase of beer and liquor shortly after crossing the state line. After the break, WPMI-TV's theme music plays as Scott says "NewsRadio…NewsRadio 710 WPMI…I have no idea…nothing…News Radio 710 WPMI, that was weird", while beating the microphone rather than the headphones as newsreader Michael P. Sloan suggested, with Leeanna now out of hiding. Our first caller is in disbelief of mayoral candidate Ann Bedsole's support for a "soft drink tax". "That's the last thing we need" quote this unnamed fellow speaking. "We don't need no soft drink tax or any other tax," said this fellow before leaving us. Scott asked Leeanna about comedian and frequent 710 AM visitor "Killer Beaz" next plans around here, along with his participation in a golf tournament. According to Scott, the Uncle actually banned our call screener from participating in the Saad's Health Care broadcast, because her tattoos and clothing may cause "someone to have a heart attack". After a discussion on females receiving comments on their clothing, Scott asked Leeanna if she's interested in the vote in Jackson. "So be it", said Scott on the way a community like Jackson is voting on the legalization of liquor sales. During this half-hour's final minute, Scott finished his opinions on liquor possibly being sold legally in Clark County, "there's some money to be made, some business to be started", and Leeanna finishing it off with "Some restaurants to open" seconds before the break. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.0/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from "wonderful town, wonderful people, places to go, things to see, my love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "Beautiful homes, schools and churches, entertainment, places to shop, my heart's in Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "Mobile the center of transportation, business and industry set the face". "Mobile's got the lovable Leeanna (hums)" (replaces "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration, roll out Mardi Gras, Senior Bowl game"). "Mobile is great, to live and to work in, the climate's ideal for progress to see." My love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". After this version of "My Love is Mobile" came a voice message from Tim requesting that Scott O'Brien turns down his music featuring "The Bee Gees" the next time he happens to beside whom our host calls "the young version of me". Voice message also included Tim's tape playing a garbled "Staying Alive". "What in the world did Steve Nodine say on his program?" said this next fellow via voice message, who admits to not knowing Steve personally, but all he heard on Friday's show was "gobbledy goop". "Thank you so much, a pleasure to meet you," said a loud in tone Uncle before congratulating listeners for choosing AM radio, the USA's "focal point a intellectual stimulation". "All very good for your brain", said our host before reminding listeners to call in by the number (251) 479-2723 about anything else locally, nationally, or worldly. Before tending to the callers lighting up all three of the telephone lines, the Uncle shares his "all right" journey to New Orleans over the weekend, mostly to visit the Six Flags theme park far from downtown. "These people were hazards…these passing lane drivers," said the Uncle reflecting on the speeders and slow left lane drivers while returning to the Mobile region. "I'm a witness to the speckle of stupidity," said the Uncle before allowing Charles on the air. "You're talking to me?" said Charles, whose mind was "someplace else" before getting to the Mobile Register's adverting problems, according to the last two editions, especially Sunday's cartoon section. "I don't read the comic strips in the paper," said the Uncle, who believes that the same jokes are "recycled decade after decade". "LNG and comics" happens to be Leeanna's two main issues now, according to our host. "It's the form of city government we have", said Bill with his assumption of why the City of Mobile hasn't shown any growth recently. "We need the replace our government for one thing", said Bill. "Bill, what about Congress, talk about council of the ungodly?" said the Uncle now reflecting on the "huge mistakes" the Mobile City Council made over the past few years, including the recently exposed free tennis lessons. "Yes, I used the word 'disgusting' numerous times already", said our mayoral candidate/host describing the city council's recent decisions before the break. After the break, listeners would find out that tomorrow's program will be on a remote location, with more details during today's 10:00 AM hour. "Thank you, Leeanna!" was the Uncle's reaction after we lost John before allowing Gene on the air. "You look good on those commercials from Mediacom", said Gene after viewing that cable provider's commercials on Oxygen featuring our host. "I thought that was the woman's channel," said the Uncle, who would admit to liking the Food Network. "Try more ESPN" was the Uncle's suggestion for Gene, who would try viewing it despite the obstacles. "Speaking of TV" said Tim before sharing this idea of sentencing females who wear "hip huggers" to the Strickland Youth Center and watch nothing but Kelly Foster of WPMI-TV for one month in order to become "a real lady". Tim also asked if our host is attending the "late" (7:00 PM) Mobile mayoral debate at a local oyster restaurant other than "The Original Oyster House". After the break, the "rising of conversational level continues" was our host's preview for the 10:00 AM hour following the Michael P. Sloan newsbreak. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.9/5!

"Showers Return"- TV5 meteorologist John Nodar

Notes of Interest:

At 4:30 AM, WALA Channel 10 aired a station identification that was way out of the ordinary. Since many radio and TV stations on the air nowadays are owned by large media companies, the appearance of a station ID from Channel 10's so-called "sister station" WVUE-TV in New Orleans was bound the happen. "You are watching FOX 8, your weather authority", said the announcer in the WVUE identification.

Tonight on regional cable/satellite station Turner South, Mobile is the vacation destination featured on the program "3 Day Weekend" airing tonight at 9:00 PM Central time.

WKRG-TV5 at 50 Project: Week 36

49 years and 246 days ago, TV5 went on the air!

Reporter Trey Thomas (Now at Bay News Channel 9 in Tampa, Florida)

Before reaching our sets via TV5, a young Mobile native named Trey Thomas left his mark in radio for 6 years as an announcer, reporter, and a news-directing intern. This would have not been possible if it weren't for his Bachelor in Arts degree in communications from Huntsville's Oakwood College. The year 1993 marked the time Trey made his way into television in the form of WKRG's latest reporter, with general assignments of course. TV5 was only the beginning of Trey's journey through the nation's airwaves, TV and radio. Speaking of radio's airwaves, Milwaukee's WTMJ-AM must be thankful to have news anchors such as Thomas, who was partly responsible for the station being recognized by the Radio & Television News Directors Association in 2003. In September that year, Trey left radio once again for Tampa (where he spent 2 years at WTVT during his nationwide journey) for his current position as local cable news channel Bay News 9's Hillsborough County reporter. According to Trey, it was Tampa itself that molded him into shape for TV news and broadcast journalism in general.

Today's Show

We start off today's show from a version of "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town") excluding the lyrics "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration" for one caller's "Mobile's got the lovable Leeanna (hums)". After a voice message from "The Idea Guy" reacting to the outcome of the United Kingdom's parliamentary elections after watching "The FOX Report", regular audio clips from "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air" to "Thank you, Uncle Henry" were heard. "Thank you so much", said the Uncle greeting listeners on this Friday program before promoting 710 AM's sale of tickets in advance of "the liberal Neil Diamond" soon to hold a concert in October. "A lot of people don't know we exist, but here we are!" quote the Uncle continuing to support amplitude modulation radio's revival over its "cousin" radio band. The "NBC Olympics" theme returns for the second straight day signaling Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine's return to the show in the midst of controversy, along with audio clips such as the now famous "I strong, disagree with Mr. Nodine". "Good afternoon, everyone", said Steve, who admits that things have been "low key" since earning his place in the county commission last year. "All right, you already confused me," said the Uncle before confirming that Steve has indeed hired an economic consultant, or lobbyist "to secure economic funding". Our host would also confirm for listeners that Prichard, Alabama is part of Mobile County and is among the poorest when to comes down to "cities for its size", according to a certain top ten list. "I think the City of Prichard should be optimistic", said Steve referring to its newly elected mayor as of October 2004, Ron Davis. "Lets get to the core of the controversy of having this economic development done", said the Uncle previewing what Nodine must face after the break. Before the break, Steve encouraged our host to mention another "special guest" near by, who happens to be Christopher Nodine at 8 years of age. "Hello, Uncle Henry", said the soft-spoken Christopher, who was quickly questioned by the Uncle about why he's within the confines of a building shared by two different companies (WKRG and Clear Channel of Mobile) instead of school. "Because it's field day", said Christopher, which only gained a response of "Oh, it's field day!" from our host. After the break, voice message from Tim asking "what more can you ask for?" while speaking about Mobile County Public School Board president David Thomas in court. "Commissioner 'Hammer', whatever?" said the Uncle reintroducing Nodine by name and nickname before getting to the tax payers' question, "Why do you need a separate duplication of consultants?" Steve disagreed with this before continuing with "it does not have to be used for economic development", as in the money of the taxpayers. "I'm going to let you continue" said the Uncle before trying to translate Nodine implying a possible county tax cut along the way. "Do they go out and recruit?" was the Uncle's question regarding the Mobile Chamber of Commerce's focus on outside industries, which "looks after the whole area" as Steve put it. "Why are some chamber folk not happy with the idea of this economic survey?" said the Uncle before Steve acknowledged those who agree or disagree with the survey, including fellow commissioner Mike "Big Daddy" Dean, whose the "leader of my team". "I want to make sure the people have their monies worth", said Steve ending this interesting discussion before the second break. After the break, the Uncle used this 5-second segment with theme music from a certain TV program including the word "Idol" in the background to preview the Michael P. Sloan newsbreak. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town") including lyrics such as "Senior Bowl game", along with all-time caller Leroy's "Roll Tide Roll" put in place of "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration" in this version of the show's theme song, as "The Idea Guy" calls it. After regular audio clips from familiar notes of music to "So I've come back to reality, I've come back to you", while putting a lot into the cancellation of the America's Junior Miss program, "Idea" suggests that David Bronner of Retirement Systems of Alabama takes that out of Mobile's hands too. "Cheaper and a lot faster to take that over" said "Idea". "Thank you so much!" said a louder than usual Uncle before thanking the "listenerhood that exists among you, the populace" and for joining a side of the radio that he doesn't find "good for nothing". Besides the music of FM radio, the Uncle also placed National Public Radio under the "good for nothing" catagory. "We're going to have some beautiful weather here for the next several days", said our host "looking forward", despite the sadness after yesterday's official announcement on the Junior Miss program's end. "They won't have the Junior Miss to kick around, anymore", said the Uncle showing anger toward the TV networks that have changed along with culture since the program was created in 1957. Voice message from former live caller Al was played, suggesting change for the Junior Miss program in order to survive for at least another year, along with hope for another national sponsor. "Maybe they'll diversify", said Al's, whose cultural view is far different from the modern culture that is currently sighted as the culprit behind the scholarship program's demise. "I really don't know if I agree with you, Al", quote the Uncle's simple response, followed by a few complex ones on racial & cultural diversity. Plus, our host defended himself of not being a "hypocritic", as Al called him once before. Pat currently working in Texas joins us not on the topic of the America's Junior Miss' complete demise as of September 1st, 2005, but on the one of a well known Georgia lady previously "lost". "What she did was pretty stupid," said Pat on this female leaving her small town without "saying a thing". "Stupidity is a virtue, not a constitutional right", said Pat referring to what was eventually realized after this lady's return to Georgia, with the Uncle responding with "It's everywhere" causing numerous laughter among listeners, including our Patrick. Norman joins us in defense of himself with "I don't look at pornography" after joining us yesterday with his computer's spyware problem while trying to hear 710 AM's almost live Internet stream. After hearing yesterday's numerous computer experts calling in during the 10:00 AM hour, it's software for destroying spyware/adware (and protecting against) that Norman needs. "Commend the people at the Junior Miss for using common sense", said Norman now touching what will be an on-going topic from now until shortly after June 27, the day the finals air nationally. After the break, voice message from T.C. plays as the "Jonny Quest" theme can be heard in the background. "We need some football, some Alabama football"; said T.C. during this voice message on our host's alleged "football withdrawal". "It's something classy, it's something good for these young ladies", said regular caller Paul, whose' sentiments were well appreciated by the Uncle, but even the very mention of "graphic topics" (females kissing and such) won't be allowed during this program's timeslot again, unless it's the Rush program. After a great "Roll Tide Roll" exchange, "I want to talk about Jack Tillman and Mr. Tyson!" said our next caller explaining why "somebody wants somebody out of office". "It's like two little kids squaring off", said this fellow before the Uncle mentioned how depressing it is to see this going on with public money in use. "Perfect television story," said the Uncle after explaining how this rivalry between two elected southern-accented officials (low and deep voiced) would make a good piece for "60 Minutes". During this half-hour's shortest segment, "I tried to stay up for that ABC show on American Idol" said our mayoral candidate, who usually goes to sleep once "8:30 rolls around". Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.2/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from "My Love is Mobile" ("that's my wonderful town") including song lyrics such as "Mobile the center of transportation, business and industry set the face", followed by about 5 repeats of the lyrics "Mobile's got the Junior Miss celebration". Following this version of the familiar Mobile song is a voice message from one fellow shortly after listening to the Uncle's weekly commentary on WKSJ-FM. "Alert minded listeners" and "foolish and feeble mind" were the AM-FM radio conclusions made by this fellow who addressed our host by "Good morning, mayor". "Thank you so much," said our host before thanking listeners for choosing "FM radio's cousin" over the frequency modulation band itself. Before getting to anything else, the "NBC Olympics" theme can be heard signaling America's Junior Miss expert John McNeil's joining of the program. "Thank you, mayor", said McNeil, who was warned by the Uncle to watch what he says when it comes to the mayoral campaign. "The culture has changed", said our mayoral candidate, which McNeil agrees with, along with the fact "that it's very expensive" to put the Junior Miss finals on television. "It's a huge reaching of America's Junior Miss program," said John after mentioning the number of colleges ("Six hundred") to receive participants in the national program. "It's a big boost and I hate to see [this fail]", said McNeil. After hearing the Uncle ask about the peak years of the program, McNeil responds with the "mid sixties to early seventies", when the Mobile-based finals attracted numerous personalities, sponsors, and the networks. "The whole person concept" itself happens to be in danger besides the Junior Miss program, such as the Miss America program as the Uncle mentioned. "It's that whole genre" said our host before McNeil mentioned that America's Junior Miss was never made to be a beauty pageant. "They still have to find the sponsors," said McNeil after our host asked if a new location for the national finals is important for survival, besides many participants enjoyed our location. "They are totally well rounded…that is the concept of Junior Miss," said our expert John speaking from his experience of being around the contestants after all these years. After thanking John for joining us today, "The end of an era" was how the Uncle ended this insight into the America's Junior Miss scholarship program and showcase of talent. After the break, a voice message from Tim "standing in front of the Bankhead Tunnel just a minute ago" was played, including his sighting of numerous "number 5" license tags. Unfortunately, Tim was unable to keep touch with the subject of indicted Mobile County Sheriff Jack Tillman. "What an end of an era, surely for Mobile, Alabama", said the Uncle on the latest in series of shocking events in the Mobile region in Twenty-O-Five (2005), from Mike Dow leaving the mayor's office very soon to the legendary Peanut Man being placed in a nursing home. Norman joins us with the usual "Good morning, Henry" with the Junior Miss program on mind, but somehing else managed to change the purpose of his call. "Well that's a shocker" said the Uncle after finding out that first caller Norman is near a computer trying to listen to 710 AM's Internet stream in Theodore, Alabama, where his reception is not the best. After clicking on "Listen Live" on the website, Norman received some sort of advertisement that made our host ask if he's telling the truth. "You might have something on your computer that has sex on it", said the Uncle who never received such a dirty pop up when clicking the stream link. Along with the Internet stream heard over the air, listeners were also informed by the Uncle that "we have a new webmaster" named Jason Taylor, whom our host will question regarding the pop up advertisments. Yep, Ian the Webmaster (and occasional guest) is no longer operating the 710 AM site. After the break, "All right, here comes Mike Sloan with his news" said our host as the theme from the popular TV program "American Idol" played in the background, followed by a preview of more "intellectual stimulation" in the next hour of today's show. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 4.5/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from "beautiful homes, schools and churches, entertainment, places to shop, my heart's in Mobile" that's my wonderful town". From "My Love is Mobile" to familiar notes of music leading up "Good morning, Uncle Henry" by T.C. via voice message, who may "jump on Highway 90" and drive off west without any worry about work due to "cold feet". "Thank you so much, Uncle Henry Show in progress!" said our host before thanking listeners for choosing the AM side of the radio yet again. "Your brain gets better nutrition on the AM", said the Uncle continuing his crusade for amplitude modulation. Later on, our host will be looking into the overflowing electronic mail box after quite a while and read a message or more over the air. Listeners old & new are reminded how to call in via (251) 479-2723, Cingular Wireless code Pound (#) 710, and answering machine number (251) 706-BULL for those shy (or "afraid" as the Uncle put it) to speak the mind on 710 AM and/or those with an afterthought. Yet another voice message from "Idea" plays, with an idea of buying out Goat Island to place more condominiums outside of the ones set for Baldwin County. "All right, Goat Island has been spoke for!" said the Uncle. "Good morning, Mayor Henry!" said first caller Jack before his "Roll Tide Roll", which our host appreciates anytime of the year. After all-time caller Leroy's "Roll Tide Roll" was heard after Jack's brief call, our host immediately jumps on to a quite serious issue involving one Florida judge's ruling for a 13-year-old girl who wants to abort her unborn child. "When did that get in? A Constitutional right?" said our mayoral candidate as he reads about yet another judge having power over the USA's constitution. Chad joins us bringing up a news story about one firefighter brain damaged for almost 10 years, but was never given a feeding tube before speaking again. After the break, the "Batman" theme plays as the Uncle mentions "Mobile's only working radio reporting" Charlie Moss reporting that the Mobile County Public School Board has elected a new board member, Judy Stout of the University of South Alabama. "We'll see," is all the Uncle has to say before we all know about the new board member's view on spanking in the schools. Joe joins us with his consulting firm address of, "Liberty Consulting, P.O. BOX 751, Magnolia Springs, Alabama 36555". Listeners are reminded twice how to come forward with something on mind, since Joe was nice enough to repeat his firm's address twice. Our first e-mail is titled "Movies" from Louie with a "sad state of affairs" as he was unable to find a single G-rated picture for his child, along with a friend. Speaking of movies, tomorrow morning our host will be speaking his mind of the "Star Wars" series on broadcaster Kenneth S. Johnson's contribution to FM radio known as WKSJ-95 FM. "I know it's a losing cause over there, but I'm going to give it a shot" said our host. After our host shared his Wal Mart experience around "Star Wars" products featuring the "Muppet man", "dog man", and "light stick cereal", it became clear that Mr. Lucas is marketing a "PG13" (shouts the Uncle) picture toward young children at the same time. Our host may be aware of those who may say that it's not illegal to take young children to a PG-rated movie, but he still finds 5 or 6 years olds watching this particular picture a "traumatizing" experience. "I'll be talking about this on the awful FM band" said the Uncle currently running on a break, who's not in the best of moods right now after hearing about the 6th edition to the "Star Wars" series being a PG-13 one. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 3.7/5!

Today's Show

We start off today's show from "wonderful town, wonderful people, places to go, things to see, my love is Mobile, that's my wonderful town". "My Love is Mobile" is followed by familiar notes of music leading up to "Ok here we go, hello you're on the air", the "Cut your volume down" clip, all-time caller Leroy's "Roll Tide Roll", and the late Lillian Jackson's "Thank you, Uncle Henry". "It is, already a socialized system" and "If you want to go into religion, socialism is based on covenantism" were among the numerous points made during one particular school board-related audio clip. "Thank you so much, welcome to the show!" said a louder than usual Uncle on a beautiful Monday morning before congratulating listeners for joining the amplitude modulation side, which is an indication that we "respect your (our) own mind". "Care about yourself and listen to this," said the Uncle during his hypothetical situation of listeners halfway to the FM dial. "Phew" said the Uncle after Saturday's stormy weather before making the decision to "drop out of the mayors race" for the next 20 minutes to speak on behalf of himself. So far, our mayoral candidate on hold believes all this rain the Mobile region has experienced is all some sort of a sign. "We've had the success of the cruise and now all this rain," said our host before the idea of turning Mobile into a "canal city like Venice" came to him, since we already have a "watery infrastructure". "You'll never have the drainage again, the canal will just be there" said the Uncle before suggesting that Government Street be the first to become a canal, followed by Water Street. "Venice of the South" is how the Uncle would see our city rather than Mike Dow's "Paris of the South" vision, even though Mobile has a French background. "I think this would be a great boom for the City of Mobile" quote the Uncle before reminding non-Cingular Wireless users how to call in. Ann joins us again after Friday's program to remind one fellow accusing her of being paranoid for her encouragement of teaching history that "it didn't take Stalin [long] to kill all the land in Russia", and if it weren't for the United Sates, "Germany might be ruler of the world". After Ann left us with a "Roll Tide" shout, Bill Davis ("long time talk show host and political activist") joins us after reading the Mobile Register article on David Thomas retaining his driver's license after a 90-day suspension ("because he refused the breathalyzer", according to the Uncle). After awarding Mobile County Public School Board president David Thomas and Judge Herman Thomas, who happens to be Thomas' cousin the "Bum" and "Double Bum" awards (both awards are back after a 10-year break), Bill reminds the Uncle that "We throw the bums" out. After the break, "Do you think Judge Thomas is following suit?" was the question on Jack's mind, answered by our host saying that Thomas had to restore Cousin David's license in this "time sensitive case". Jack also reminds listeners that Judge Thomas' ruling should not seen as a racist thing, since the cousins are both of the same races. "Let me use the telephone", said an unidentified lady on Jack's side, forcing the fellow to cut his lengthy call short in time for the break. "Mike Sloan presents the news, next" said the Uncle during the 5-second program segment leading up to 710 AM's 10:00 AM hour of programming. Today's 9:30 AM half-hour gets a 5/5!
